Season 1 Episode 4 - An Affair Of Honour

"Where are you taking me?" Matilda Gillingham asked her dearest friend, Beatrice Sinclair.

The women were walking down a busy London street, having just exited their carriage. To Matilda, they were endeavouring to find a completely unknown location since she had not yet been told how she would be spending the day. Instead, the evening before, Beatrice had told her that she would plan their day. Knowing what her dear friend could be like, Matilda was suddenly slightly anxious about what Beatrice had in store for her.

After her plotting to get Matilda and Peter speaking again, to her spontaneous trips when they were at their country homes, what the woman was planning could have been anything. Matilda expected to be either sat across from her worst enemy or to find herself in a random stable somewhere nearby. Neither situation would come as a surprise to her.

Beatrice smirked, continuing to steer her friend down the pavement. "Now that is a surprise."

"This best not be another one of your schemes, Bea. Whilst I am grateful for you helping me and Peter to be on good terms again, my heart shall not be able to cope with anymore surprises similar to that being thrust upon me."

"There will be no surprising people present." Beatrice assured her, not wanting to delve any further into the subject. When excited, she was absolutely awful at keeping secrets so avoiding the topic was the only way to stop her from spoiling the surprise.

"That somehow does not lessen my anxiety."

"It is nothing to be anxious about." Beatrice attempted to reassure her friend, wanting her to enjoy the day. "I know Daphne Bridgerton and Prince Friedrich will be present so it cannot be too scandalous."

"Scandalous?!" Matilda gasped.

Before she could question Beatrice any further, she was stopped. Her attention had been wavered by Beatrice's sudden beeline towards the door of one of the buildings beside them. Entering the already open door, she first noticed the boxing ring in the centre of the room.

"A boxing match?!" Matilda exclaimed. This was surely not an event that women would usually attend. "Of all the places I believed you would take me I did not think to imagine this. I cannot picture you enjoying the sport."

"Hmm." Beatrice paused for a moment, thinking of her answer. "I do not."

"Why are we here then?" Matilda exasperatedly asked as the pair moved to stand just inside of the room so they were no longer obstructing the doorway.
