Callie's world shattered around her.
"What?" She said.
"I know how difficult this must be for you, I just need to ask you a few questions."
"I... I think I'm gonna be sick." Callie ran out of the office to the front doors and out of the school. She stopped to puke in a nearby garbage can. She collapsed and dropped her head to her knees.
After about 15 minutes of sitting outside on the curb she went back inside to face her mother and the man that had broken her whole world. When she got back inside her mom was even more of a mess and the officer's partner was consoling her.
"If we could just ask you a few questions Callie, then we'll let you on your way."
Callie nodded and the police officer led her to the teachers lounge where they say around a large table.
"Did Sienna have many enemies?" He asked her opening his notepad.
Callie sniffled and wiped her eyes. "Well I dunno. There's this girl who kinda hates her..." Callie's voice trailed off.
"What's her name?"
Callie was silent for a moment "Jocelyn. Jocelyn uh, Serabba, I think is her last name."
"And why does Ms. Serabba hate sienna?" He asked gently.
Callie sniffled again, "uh there was an incident a few months ago where her boyfriend broke up with her for Si."
The officer wrote a few notes in his book. "Any one else?" He asked
Callie shook her head, the tears coming again.
"Alright. Hey, why don't you head home with you mother."
Callie nodded and left the lounge and ran to her mothers comforting embrace.
The drive home was silent, every radio station was reporting the Sienna's death. Callie and her mother said nothing to each other. Her mother in too much shock to speak, Callie discovering her sense of guilt.
What if I had gone to the party? Then she wouldn't have been alone.
I should have convinced her to stay home.
The next few months were filled with police coming and going. Interview after interview, "did she have any enemies? Other than Jocelyn?" No. The answer was always no. Everyone loved Sienna.
Callie changed after that day. She wore more black, bigger hoodies, never put any effort into her appearance, her school work. She stopped putting much effort into anything. But no one said anything to her about it. Except for Mrs. Jack.
"Callie, may I speak to you?" Mrs. Jack asked as the bell rang. Callie grunted and shuffled over to her math teacher from the back of the room. She wasn't able to sit in the same spot she used to.
"What." She said flatly.
"I beg your pardon?" Her teacher said.
"I said what." Callie said getting irritated.
"You will mind your tone Miss Barns." Mrs. Jack stood up from her desk.
"Whatever. What do you want?"
"I want the last three assignments that I have yet to receive from you"
"I don't have them. Can I leave?"
"Yes. You may. But I expect you back here after school for detention."
"Detention?!" Callie scoffed.
"Yes miss barns. Until you have finished the assignments."
"Fuck that." Callie said and turned to leave the room.
"Perhaps you would like to rephrase that?"
"Actually. I would. Fuck you." Callie turned around to face her teacher.
"That is the last straw miss barns. I don't care if your sister died, you still have the responsibility to do your school work."
"Excuse me!" Callie's voice raised. "You don't care if my sister died?!" She yelled. "My sister was murdered!!"
"Someone has to tell you miss barns. Someone has to bring your attention to your life."
"My sister was murdered!! And all you care about are my fucking assignments!!"
"Miss barns. I need you to take a deep bre-"
"No! I'm not going to take a deep breath!" Callie screamed. "My sister was MURDERED and all you fucking care about are my fucking assignments!"
"Miss barns-"
"NO! GO FUCK YOURSELF!" Callie screamed and stormed out of the class.
"Someone has a short temper." Jocelyn said smirking and leaning up against a locker. Callie just glared at her and kept walking.
"Um excuse me, I fucking said something to you!" Jocelyn said grabbing Callie's arm. Callie spun around pulling a pocket knife out of her hoodie pouch and pushed Jocelyn up against the locker holding it in front of her face. "And I fucking ignored you." Callie said calmly.
Jocelyn looked to her right and smirked. Callie followed her gaze to see the principal standing with her arms crossed.
"Fuck." Callie said putting her knife away.
"Actually you can just give that to me" the principal said.
