That is where the Lannisters failed. Since no one wanted to be near the lannisters nor make deals with the house remained strong for a while because of their wealth but it did not last. France, the tyrells made a move against the Lannisters. That move utterly crushed the house into ruin.
The Tyrells took all of Lannister gold and money. That move the tyrells was utterly genius and every other house loved the attack that Lannisters got. To everyone it was well deserved. In the next 50 years or plus no one will know the house of Lannister. That the Lannister house became extinct with the other houses such as House Frey, House Tully, and many others.
How history will know what the house chose to do in the past and in the future. And how they became extinct.
