2 years later...

Esme's pov

"Can i get you another one, sir?" I take the guy's empty beer glass. His only response is a lifted hand, writing on invisible paper in the air. I turn to get mister to-sullen-to-even-speaks' check.

The bell chimes, signaling another costumor entering the small bar. I've long since stopped looking towards the door everytime it happens, expeting him to come in.

I've been working in this small town for about three months now, taking a small break from travelling and gathering a bit of coin before I journey north, to the mountains and forests of Canada and Alaska.

For the past two years I've travelled almost every corner of South America. I started in Columbia, before venturing south to Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia and Chile, before heading back north through Argentina, Uruguaya and Paraguaya before a quick exploration through the vast country of Brazil.

I spent a lot of time traveling with a nomadic pack that I stumbled across in the highlands of Peru. It was a marvelous experience traveling the Andes with them. They showed me that a pack isn't just a territory, that it doesn't need to stick to just one place. I was so supprised that the other South American packs left them to travel through their borders without much of a hassle. As long as they don't cause trouble, they were welcomed with open arms. A lot of wolves would also join up or leave the troop when they would find their mates. I'd tried not to let my broken heart show, everytime someone would find their mate, but after a while it just got too much to bear, and I went my separate way again.

Even though I tried to stick to main roads and big cities, places that packs an rogues would avoid, it wasn't always smooth travelling. On my first week in South America, I ran into a group of rogues who were looking for trouble. Years of training in the pack with the pack warriors helped me keep most of the annoyances away. I was grateful Alpha Jack allowed me to train with James and the other warriors, otherwise my travels would've been short lived.

There was one alpha in Argentinia who I really had a tough time getting away from. His mate had died and so he tried to claim me as his new mate. If it wasn't for his ex-lover's help in escaping, I don't know where I would've been now. Probably dead.

He did send some of his goons to come and find me and take me back to him. They tried to corner me at a club in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, but Luckily I spotted them before they found me and was able to make an escape. After that I decided that my time in South America has come to an end and I quickly travelled back to the states.

It's been five months now without a trace of them, so hopefully he's found something else to keep him busy with, or they must've finally lost my trail back in Brazil. Back in North America, it would be harder for them to track and find me.

Now, I just need to make it to the Canadian border before my heart betrays me. I was thinking of stopping at home, visiting everyone there again, but I'm scared if I do I might not leave again, or worse, seeing him with his new mate. I know I told him to move on and to forget me, but just because he did, doesn't mean I can. I don't think I'll survive seeing him with someone else anymore.

The bell chimes again, signalling another customer's arrival. The loud ding wakes me out of my reverie.

I sigh, walking to the booth where the new customer is seated.

"Hi, can I get you..." my voice dies in my throat as I almost faint with shock.

"James" I finally manage to breathe out, staring at the blue eyes in front of me. My heart basically stops beating, my palms are sweating and I feel light headed.
"What...? Uh? What are you doing here?" My mind is frozen from the surprise, nor allowing me to form proper sentences.
