(For most chapters, there is a LOT of bloodshed\Thr0wing up, etc. So if you have a weaker stomach then read another story :)
A giant roar is in the distance.
Through the tall grass, I run for my life. I feel the pump of adrenaline coursing through my veins. I lead the giant beast farther and farther away, deep into the woods. An even bigger roar, that almost makes me deaf gets out of the beast's throat. It sounds tired. Good.
I jump through trees and bushes. There's small cuts all over my legs because I'm going so fast in the grass. My feet feel like they're about to give out on me any moment. I finally jump as high as I can, landing in a tree, and the beast falls into the trap; the rest of the military throws spears, and knives at the beast. As the strongest tribe member, I hop down there and try to get the beast's legs so the other warriors can easily kill it.
I roar, growl, and try to look bigger. (Which was silly, the beast was at least 17 feet tall.)
Only a select few are born with a gift from the gods. I was one of them. I'm able to harden my skin, stronger than a boulder.
Arrows are rushed past me, the beast's legs are chewed up by the poison in the arrows. Acid runs through the beast's fur. I look up at my chef and fellow warriors. They smile as they nod their heads. I nod mine back, now facing towards the beast at hand.
Sometimes I feel bad killing animals, beasts, etc. But my grandma and dad just told me to thank them and the gods after killing them. "To honor, and thank." they say. It does help, a lot.
I take a deep breath, and a deep breath out.
I harden my arms and start digging into the beast's stomach. (Dark I know, but the beast has done way worse than this.) The beast groans in pain and tries to move. I came back out of the tunnel I made. I hold a chunk of it's heart in my hand and lift it up to the sky. Everyone cheered and was so proud of me.
I look back and see the beast has its last breath. This type of beast instantly dies on its one spot of its throat if you hurt it enough. It's hard to see so you can't try to shoot it and win. I grab a poison arrow out of its leg and hop onto its neck. I thank them for the adventure and it's flesh that will help my people. I quickly slash the spot and it dies.
Everyone cheers louder. I look up and see everyone smiling and cheering.
I get help up out of the trap and smile. I have made my people proud.
Some stay to slowly cut the pieces of the beast's meat so we can have food for quite a while. The rest of us go home. I go into my cabin like home. I take off my head piece, and put away my personal spear, gifted to me by the leader and his wife.
I take off my fake horns. Which was a sign of a powerful warrior. I lay in my bed exhausted and starving. I heard a knock on my door. It was the chef's assistant Loreen. "Hello Kirishima. Are you hungry yet?" She smiled. "Uh, I always am! Let's go!" I put back on my headwear and head out.
The table was set and I can feel the saliva running down my chin. Loreen laughed and led me to my seat. "Thank you" I smiled. She nodded and sat next to the chef. (Loreen was also the chef's daughter)
"Eijiro, my boy! You did wonderful today. So did everybody else! I am so proud of each of your guys' work today, and everyday. I am so proud to say that I am your mentor and leader. I am glad I get to use your brains and brawn." The chef did his daily thanks before we were allowed to eat.
"Now, we may eat." I started scarfing down the food. It was delicious. While drinking my water, I notice the chef being quiet in his chair. He had a soft sad smile. After I was done with my food I walked over to the chef and asked what was wrong. Everyone else was chiming in too. "I was going to save this a little while later but I guess I'll say it now," Chef stood up.
"I'm getting old. I'm not how I used to be. Fast, young, cheerful, strong, you know. I'm going to start my retirement."
Everyone was silent. "I'm going to choose my top three, and I will let the village decide. I- love you guys." He only said that when he really meant it. So we all knew this was serious. Some cried, some just ate their food silently, others just begged him to stay for a while longer. I just stood there. He was like a father to me.
After dinner, the chef wanted to walk with me. "You know they're going to pick you, right?" The chef, said looking at the sunset ahead. "What?" I didn't want him to keep talking. "You're one of my three. The village wants a good chef that will protect them emotionally and physically. Kirishima, I know you are the one to do that." I almost cried.
"You are the symbol of change. You were as skinny and weak as Finn. But here you are, red hair, burning passion and one of the strongest in the village. You can change this world, I know it. I am so proud of you."
The chef sounded like he was going to cry too.
Just not the same reasons as me. I'm going to die before my 21st birthday.
If I didn't know; if I haven't seen it before. Maybe I would be crying for the same reasons as the chef's. But I know it'll happen, sooner or later. Just after I meet him, and fall in love all over again, I'll die. Not sure when, or how; but I will.
I won't be able to change anything.
I'm sorry.
