She slowly unwound the cords from my neck, it had turned a pinky-red colour from where they had pulled so tightly, I winced ever so slightly at the pain, beau stood at the foot of the bed looking dumb founded, what had he expected, I mean really? Did he expect rainbows and lollipops? Or me to be sitting there smiling when he walked in? Because if he did, he was way wrong, I watched the nurse as she filled out the sheet that was attached to the end on my bed, she scribbled something and walked around the bed, I took the time to look at her name tag, Jamie, it read, i studied her appearance for the first time since she walked in, she had dark brown hair that was pulled into a side ponytail, a piece had escaped and fell in a light curl on the side of her face, she had a light dusting of freckles on her cheeks and big blue eyes, ocean blue, her eyelashes were long and black, her nose was little an round and suited her face perfectly, she had dimples even when she spoke, I would have to introduce her to Luke, they would be cute, almost as cute as Ari and I, but not quite.
Beau sat on the chair beside the window, he gazed out the window picking at what was left of the paint on the radiator , his eyes locked on a lake in the far distance, crystal clear blue, it had a white jetty off the side and a little bungalow at the back. it was white with green framing and skirting boards. It had palm trees on either sides, swaying gently in the breeze. Oh how I loved Melbourne, even the hospital had a fantastic view. Jaime rushed around the bed and fluffed up my pillow, I had to admit, even though the beds were hard and painful, the pillows were so soft, it was lovely, I might have to take one home. Jaime looked at me and I smiled, she took that as a sign too leave, I was glad, I needed to talk to Beau. Alone.
"Beau" I said, my voice only managing a croaky whisper, damn those painkillers I was on.
Beaus eyes lifted from the lake to mine, they looked glassy and cold, they weren't the bright, piercing green they normally were, he slowly drew in a breath and began to talk.
"Jai. I'm sorry, You know Nonna died and I'm so sorry I couldn't be there for you, I'm sorry I wasn't the strong big brother you were expecting to see, I'm truly sorry" He looked away in shame.
'Beau stop!" I tried to screech ' you've been more than strong over the years, you've held Luke and myself up whenever we needed you, and that was alot, don't you ever think you've let us down. You are one of the best brothers I could ask for."
He shrugged his shoulders he clearly wasn't up for a conversation, Sighing, I collapsed on my bed, watching the celing I started counting the ots in the panels.
"99,100,101,102,103" I counted out loud
"Uhh, Jai? what are you doing?" Beau asked clearly amused at the fact I could still count that high.
"Making sure I can still count" I replied smirking
Beau let out a light laugh, I really did miss him, and the other boys, speaking of which..
"Beau, where are the boys?"
"oh, they're coming up soon, they wanted to take care of mom and everything first" he said shifting his weight uncomfortably
"Oh, that's sweet, oh, Beau, our video's viral!" i said sounding like twelve year old fan girl.
Beau looked at me and grinned "I'm aware bro, I'm not the one who's been in hospital for two days"
A blush crept onto my cheeks, duh Jai, could you say anything stupider?, I sat there thinking about what to say, before I could open my mouth, beau spoke.
"Oh, jai, some girl called, said her name was Ari and that you didn't call, I told her you were in hospital and you'd call her when you got out"
"What." my tone deadpanned.
"she sounded worried but I told her that we'd just got news of our Nonna dieing and you'd collapsed. It calmed her down, she said she'd get on a plane as well but I said that wasn't necessary and that you'd be fine"
my mouth hung open in awe. she actually cared about me? Why? what have I ever done for her? God, her was perfect, Beau handed me my phone, to be honest I'd completely forgotten about it until right now. I slid my finger across the glass screen and it buzzed to life
