It had all started off so normal!
Arriving on the Shaw's of mako island the water was so calm, the white froth of the water lapped at my feat as we started unloading the the camping gear from the boat.
"Hey Jazzy can you help me carry the tent off the beach please!" Asked Josh, his hair whipping around in the ocean breezy as the sun set bellow the horizon revealing the first few stars in the sky.
Traipsing inland, the thicket of bushes that lined the beach began to thin out revealing a small patch of clear ground at which we could make pitch our tent on.
"This will do! Just drop the stuff down there and we will set up the tent."
Looking up at the volcano rising up from the middle of the island, I couldn't help but want to explore.
"Okay Jazzy, that's the tent all done! Would you mind going to find some more firewood while I get dinner going as there isn't enough here to last the night."
I didn't need anymore encouragement as I ran off into the brush looking for fire wood and using the opportunity to look around a bit before it got too dark.Bursting out from the trees, I spotted a small winding stream leading down from the volcano. I decided to follow it up a little bit to a small pool surrounded by large rock wich were still damp and coverd with moss and mud from yesterday's storm.
Climbing on top I finally spotted some logs I could use for the fire and stood up to walk over, but I slipped on some moss and went sliding down into a small dark hole in the ground, twisting my ankle as I went down.
Looking round, I was sat in a small sandy chamber with a narrow path leading further on in.
Standing up, I realised the way I fell in was too steep to climb out again and littered with gagged rocked on the edges of the slope.
"I guess the only way I can go now is in" I said to myself as I started walking down the narrow cavern anxious to see where it would lead.
Emerging from the passageway it opened up into a huge chamber with a beautiful stone lined pool with water the colour of sapphire's filling it illuminated by the open top of the volcano hundreds of meters up.
Looking more closely, I saw that there were small waves moving in the pool meaning it connected to the ocean on the outside of the island meaning I could get back to Josh before he got worried.
Climbing into the pool, I was shocked at how warm it was, laying back I looked up floating in the water, just as the full moon started to come over the edge of the opening at the top of the volcano.
Suddenly a ring of bubbles erupted around me wrapping round my legs and lifting me up as small round glowing orbs floated out from the water straight up towards the moon and the open top of the volcano.
"Wow this is amazing!". I exclaimed as I took one last look at the cave before taking my last deep breath and dove down as the bubbles finally subsided and stopped.
Swimming out along the underwater passage, my lungs felt like they were going to burst when I finally reached the other end and dragged myself out onto the beach where I passed out from exhaustion on the dry sand and fell asleep with dreams of the pool filling my head as I slept asking the question what was that place and what had happened last night?
