Sirius Black was burning with rage. Something that seemed to happen far too often these days. He stormed through the castle, unsure of here he was going. Tension pushed through his skull and his eyes burned. He could feel the fury seer through his veins.
Though he hadn't set out with a destination in mind, he had ended up in a place that he had spent much of his first year writing his brother.
It was no secret Regulus and him had become estranged shortly after the start of his second year. Once the younger Black brother had been sorted, Sirius shut him out. He was now one of them. Yes, Sirius could admit it was a mistake, it could be simmered down to a youthful indiscretion, but he knew deep down it was more than that. He had always felt on the outside of his family, a black sheep. His mother always wanting him to be the perfect pure-blood prince and his father making sure he knew just how much pressure there was for him to become the heir of the Black family. But his brother? He saw Sirius.
Until he didn't.
It was after the 'Welcome Back' feast and sorting ceremony that the altercation that changed everything for the brothers occurred.
Sirius had cornered his brother in the corridor outside the Great Hall, scolding him for his house placement, making sure that Regulus knew just how little he thought of him, a snake, just like the rest of them.
Regulus never looked at Sirius the same way after that. His eyes once full of admiration for his brother's rebellion was now full of hurt and distrust. Sirius was no better than his parents. A hateful, prideful, and prejudiced person.
Now, a calmed Sirius sat in the window sill. He admired the view of the courtyard, full of students wasting away their afternoon. His eyes landed on the far corner of the courtyard, shaded by trees. It was tucked away and hard to see much over there but Sirius knew that a certain werewolf spent his afternoons reading hidden away from the world in that very spot. The cold weather didn't dissuade him from going to his favorite reading spot, he just bundled up warmer in his favorite scarf. One that Sirius gave him. Just the thought of Remus made Sirius smile.
"I'm sorry, I didn't know you'd be here." called a familiar voice.
After a moment of silence, Sirius replied.
"Only when I need to think, and it seems I've been doing that a lot lately."
"That's a first for you," Regulus smirked but Sirius sent back a glare, "Uh, sorry."
"I fought with James," Sirius pulled his legs into his chest, "It was my fault, I fucked up, like I always seem to do eventually."
"Sirius, you didn't fuck up." Regulus replied sympathetically.
"Yes I did, just like I did with you. It wasn't your fault that you were put in Slytherin and it isn't James's fault that he..." Sirius scolded himself.
"You know I overheard them too," Sirius perked up, suddenly curious. "Him and Lily."
"Oh fuck."
"I went to talk to you, I saw you sneaking behind them and I though I could pull you away but.." Regulus trailed off.
"Look, I know that you might not feel the same way about James but please, if he has feelings for you or he's trying to figure things out please do not hurt him. Please. He is as much my brother as you are and I can't lose him too."
"What if I do feel the same?" Regulus said sheepishly.
"Then we have some work to do."
