"We'll talk about it later", Mom says. Later never comes, it's something I learnt over the entirety of my life. Definitely, not from my parents. When they come across a decision, they stick to it.
Especially, my headstrong, stubborn father.
I rub my chiseled eyes, and experience a deja vu, only this time, i'm actually in my cosy bedroom, against the warm grey bedsheets that spit comfort to me. A day's rest was important, but I reckon I got more than that.
An entire week, since we've spoken regarding my decision to attend college. Although, not really my call to make. Unless, I convince my father. A few light knocks ring in through my door, and I cough out, "Come in".
"Ari, your father's calling you downstairs", My favourite mafia boy, Alvaro says and I run up to hug him. You could say, he's like the older brother i've never had. He smiles at me, and engulfs me into a tighter hug.
Alvaro was 21, two years older than me. He has a sweet girlfriend, Maya, who also plays the role of my cousin sister. I loosen myself from him, "Yeah, I'll come downstairs. How's Benjamin, and Maya doing. I haven't seen them in ages", I say as he leaves.
Benjamin was my niece, they had a son at quite the young age, but their love was true. I gauge into the bright sunlight that sheathed it's waves into my room. Smiling at myself, I tumble downstairs to the striking scent of mint coffee.
I sip on the coffee, and shriek, "Hot". The coffee burns my tongues tastebuds and I choke out the remaining coffee on my tongue into the sink.
"You should be more responsible" Father says and I frown, "Well, Good morning to you too". I roll my eyes, and he peeks away from the newspaper to me. "The vipers invited us for dinner, tonight. Get dressed before 6", He stops at me, and I nod my head.
"Wait, Ari. I've decided that" He says hesitantly while I sip on the currently cold coffee, "That, you'll be able to go to college", He says and I I rise out of my seat. I engulf him into a hug, I knew pappa couldn't be too stubborn.
Although, he was in mafia, he had the heart of gold. I knew it, he loved me. He couldn't be too upset with me for too long, and he knew I wanted to go to college. I had just finished high school barely of the radar, how was he trusting me to go to college?
I do a quick happy dance, which consisted of jumping up and down, before father interrupts me, "Calm you horses, you won't be too excited, honey", He grunts and I calm down instantly. Obviously there was a catch.
I groan, before slumping onto my seat, and he starts up "You have to change your identity for a little bit, and you must go Water view", He says and my nerves boost up. I didn't mind changing my identity for security, but a private college?
A little too far. Water view, was known as a rich kid school, and there were ample of mafia children that attended. I sigh, before nodding my head. There was no way in hell I was going to miss a golden opportunity.
Maybe, if I kept my best behaviour I would be able to go to college of my choice. I just needed to show to everyone, that I was more responsible. I land a kiss on pappa's cheek who smiles at me, and then rush upstairs to my maid who holds a pretty, backless, black violet dress in her hands.
I strip off hurriedly, and hop into the bathtub that smelled of cherry petals, and lemon. My favourite combination, and a great detox.
I scrub off the dirt on my arms, and hop out of the bath tub after a while. I dry myself, and wiggle into the violet body con heart necked dress, that reached up to the floor, with a slit up my mid thigh.
I sit on my large mirror seat, and watch as one of the maids brushes my jet black hair down into light curls from the end. I count my pearl rings that wrap around my bony fingers, and stare at my reflection in the mirror.
My deeply tanned skin was powdered with glossy makeup, and my eyes were outcasted through the thick eyeliner wings. My lips twerk into a smile, and I take my stance down the staircases.
I hated mafia gatherings, but hopefully it wouldn't go too bad. I curiously watch my parents discussing about something. My parents looked charming, even in their late 40's. My mother's brown hair was set into braids, and she wore a maroon v neck dress and her a gold choker-necklace.
Father, looked handsome with his hair slicked back, and his suit that hugged his gigantic muscles that he managed to retain. "Darling, you look gorgeous", Mother spots me down the stairs and I let out a weak smile.
Father nods in agreement, and I cross my arms together, "Are Alvaro, and Maya coming too?", I ask with a subtle hint of hope, I would be in so much ease if they came.
"Unfortunately, Not. Maya has to take care of little ben, and Alvaro has work up his sleeves", Mother says softly, and I feel a little sweat trickle up my forehead. The last time I attended a mafia event was at age four, I was pretty much hidden from the world then.
The event was more than a mass of chaos, it was horrifying. A gang had invited majority of the greatest, including our family and the reapers, that weren't invited were in rage. They came mid way the night, and bombed the entire arena.
I was escorted with my parents in time, fortunately. I shake my head, and provide myself with reassurance, it was just a simple, mafia gathering. Our bodyguards open the massive gate, and our limo enters.
I hop in, beside my parents and sigh to myself.
