Soon, she discovers a new and deeper meaning of love causing her which dream is really worth chasing after.

Jeanette Simmons - the renowned "ice princess" of the school, she is also a senior and fellow co-captain of the varsity cheerleading squad along with Erika. After many relationships in the previous years, some of which ending up in disaster, Jeanette doesn't really seem interested in dating this year but that soon changes as soon as she meets Luke Reynolds, the hot transfer student face to face, who also turns out to be the dorky loser she had once dumped back in middle school. What she has yet to find out is that Luke, while still carrying affections for her, is bent on teaching her a lesson about heartbreak.
"He honestly frightens me. I just know he hates me and it makes me anxious to think about what he's going to do to me."
Keira Myers - because of a certain incident that occurred last year, Keira Myers, a former cheerleader, is now a social outcast --- subject to the teasing, ridicule and torment from both girls and guys alike. She had already distanced herself from others, even the people she respects the most --- Erika and Jeanette --- and has forsaken the idea of ever being treated normally again. It isn't until one evening when some students take a prank too far that Cole Spencer steps in to save her and with this, Keira starts to become the little sunshine that she once was.
"When I was alone in the darkness, he was drowning in the abyss of self-hatred. Together, we managed to help each other reach for the light."
Darcy Harper - with mediocre grades and a few friends, Darcy just manages to get by in school with the most cheerful smile on her face. With her aspiration to become a famous author someday, and her desire to get close to Ethan Bennett, the student body president whom she has a massive crush on, any person may think that she leads a normal life but beneath her smiles and optimism lies a scar in her heart which only the right person could possibly heal.
"I smile a lot but he doesn't seem to be fazed by it? I wonder why."
Valerie Foster - the school's best female dancer, she dreams of making it big in the entertainment world. She has single-handedly founded "The Hip-Hop Girls" --- her dance group in school but she is still searching for the last member to join the group in order to make it a legitimate team. Valerie has an intense dislike for Daniel Cooper but when circumstances force the two of them to spend time with each other, the chance to rekindle a relationship more than of just hatred and resentment also comes about.
"It's a new year and I so have to beat this guy. I'll do anything to witness his sorry ass!"
Megan Ross - also a former cheerleader, Megan quit the squad and joined "The Hip-Hop Girls" to get away from the tyranny of Anya, the bitchy head cheerleader of Serenity Falls High. A major feminist, she seems to find guys the most despicable creatures on the planet. Well, what will happen when "man-hater" Megan finds herself caught in the attention of Mark Sullivan, the good-looking new student whom nobody can't stop talking about?
"Why won't he leave me alone?! Can't he just see that I'm afraid of getting hurt?!"
Summer Bennett - as a daughter of a rich businessman, Summer mostly hangs out with her cousin, Ethan, and the preps. She loves food and hates people who take it away from her. Needless to say, she thinks of Will Harrison as a devil spawn and fights with him with every opportunity she can get. Can the two food rivals stop for a second from harassing each other just to get through with a project they're forced to work together on?
"I can't stand him, especially since he thinks he's better than me but....maybe it is possible to feel butterflies for your enemies."
Rosalie Lopez - a high school honor student with the highest grade-point average in her whole batch and the second overall highest achiever in Serenity Falls High, first being Ethan Bennett. Rosalie only as two interests at heart: Getting into a good college and her childhood friend, Josh Hamilton. This year, she is more determined than ever to change from her extremely introvert self and tell Josh what she really feels for him, no matter what happens.
"When is he going to see that I've always been there for him.....and that she doesn't give a damn."
Catherine Simpson - a rather quiet but laid back kind of person with the best grades in her class, after Rosalie. Catherine hangs out with the preps since her boyfriend is one of the most popular seniors. She has led a predictable life, guided by her parents' somewhat strict rules so it isn't really surprising when one day, Catherine decides to break out of her mundane shell of life and venture out onto the streets, falling into the irresistible temptation, Ben Murphy, a guy who lives his life in the exact opposite way Catherine has ever known of.
"He's everything I've always been told to avoid yet I can't help but feel drawn to him like a moth is to fire."
