I began knocking on one of the many doors of a large house, there was no answer. I walked around the back and saw a large glass building with the door creaked open ever so slightly. You looked around your surroundings slowly. You explored the area, as your eyes widen when you see severed heads off dolls laying in a fountain. "Flora leaves her toys everywhere," you heard a loud snip of scissors. "Don't be surprised if you find a little mermaid in your toilet." A woman with grey hair, comes face to face with you. You found the sound of her shoes pleasant. "You must be Y/N?" You replied with a smile. "Yes! Hi." The woman turned around and started walking. "Come along." She said. "Oh..are you Mrs. Grose?" You asked. "I am!" "Oh, it's so nice to meet you!" You pleaded. You follow her and smile as you walk through the long hall. "And it's just the two of you here?" You asking out of curiosity. "Cleaners, and the gardener come in every couple of weeks, but yes; it's just me and Flora while Miles is away at school." She explained. We stepped into a beautiful room. "This is where you'll be giving Flora her lessons." She took a small pause and looked up at me while grabbing a glass from the table. "Have you ever been a live-in-governess?" "No, no. Not since the 1800s." I let out a small giggle. "Is that a joke?" I dropped my smile. "No, no, not a funny one." I replied. "This is my first live-in job." I stated. "Ah. Well I hope you know what you're doing, the children are very special, Y/N. They're thoroughbreds." She picked up a plate and walked off again. "Now, come along. I have something on the stove." We began walking up a flight of stairs. "It's so quiet." You said shocked. Most children you've met were never calm or silent. "All the better to hear you when you get lost." She replied to my comment. I awkwardly laughed "Is that a joke?" "No." We stepped into the kitchen, "Mm! That smells so good." I told Mrs. Grose. "I made this soup for Flora's father when he was her age." She began washing the dishes in her hands. "Oh, you've been with the family for that long?" I asked. "That's quite a commitment!" I looked at Mrs. Grose. "It's an honor..is what it is." There was a moment of silence. "And..may I ask how the parents died?" I said trying not to sound rude. "They died in a tragic car accident. Just outside the gate," She said. "Flora saw the whole thing." She continued. "That's awful.." I said trying not to cry. "Yes, it is!" She replied. "And it's hard for the children." I wanted to make a connection to make Mrs. Grose feel less uncomfortable. "Well...growing up without parents is..My father left when I was Flora's age so.." I stated. "Is that right?" Mrs. Grose smiled at me before tasting her soup. "Mm.." "I'd love to meet Flora! Where might I find her?" I asked. "She's down at the stables! Just take the path around the back." I picked up an apple. "Uh..may I?" "Course!" She said. I slipped it into my pocket and walked off. The stables were creepy. I didnt like it there. "Flora?" I called out for the young child. I heard a loud noise and walked towards it. "Flora?" I repeated myself. "It's Y/N! I came to say hi." There was a loud bang a few moments later, I jumped a little and turned around. "Flora? Flora!" A huge black horse got on its hind legs and stomped on the ground. Startled, I jumped back. A little girl ran past me giggling. I smiled. "Hi!" I said. "Hi" she replied back. "Where were you hiding?" I asked. "Like I'd tell." The horse in the back kept making noises, making loud thumps on the ground, "Jeez, he's not very friendly is he?" I asked the young girl. "His name is Samson. He's grumpy all the time. He only lets Miles ride him." "Ahh," I say. "Ooh!" A beautiful horse came up to the gate I was standing beside. "And who's this?" I asked. "This is Delilah. She was my mothers horse...you can pet her on the nose if you want! Just be gentle, okay?" Flora said to me. I smiled and nodded. I slowly put my hand on the snout of the nose, and brushed downward. I laughed. "She wants your apple." Flora told me. I smiled at her and looked confused, pulling the apple out from my pocket.  "How did you know that?" I hand the pretty white horse my apple. "She is my favorite horse... Did you know that apples have cyanide in them? And the seeds are poisonous." I looked at Flora in amazement. "No I did not know that! How did you know that?" I said laughing. Flora pointed to a doll laying on the floor. "She told me! Dr. Felicity Peppercorn Clock Watch." I smiled again, "Ohh! Nice to meet you Felicity, that's quite a name." "She's a veterinarian." "Is that what you wanna be?" I asked Flora. "Or maybe a chef." She said. "You could be both." I recommended. "I would have to be a vegetarian." "Why is that?" I asked. "I can't save animals then eat them!" I nodded at the girl. "Very true." "Come on!" The girl ran off. I slowly followed. "Hold on!" I yelled. "Wow." I said. "This maze is very complicated.." "Yeah, it's so big." I replied to her, "You need to know your way around, or you'll get lost. One time I couldn't find my way out, and I almost starved to death." She told me. "What?" I said giggling. "Jeez, your friends must love it here." "I don't have any friends." Flora said to me. I frowned "You have no friends?" "Nope!" "Well, you might have one now." I smiled down at her. "Maaaaybe." She laughed. "Maybe? Okay, I'll work for it." The girl rans through the halls as I followed behind her. "Okay so, what? You're in ninth grade? Tenth?" I asked teasing her. "Second!" She yelled. "Second? Wow!" I said acting shocked, "I could've skipped a grade if I wanted. Miss Jessel said I was an exceptional student." She smiled at me as leaned against a wood post of the stair railing. "Wait, who's Miss Jessel?" I asked smiling. "My teacher before you!" She continued up the stairs, me following behind her. "She taught me French, you know!" She said. "Oh, she did?" Flora ran. "Come on, slowpoke! And this mirror's from the 1980s!" She explained. "Ooh." I said in amazement. Flora pointed to a large painting, "That's my great-great-great-great aunt Louisiana and her dog Otis. And that's the ship her brother died on. Guess what he had! He had dentistry." Flora said in only a few breaths. "Dysentery?" "Yeah.. that's what I said." She pointed down a dark hall. "Thatks Miles' room, and that's mine next to it!" Flora grabbed my hand and started pulling me somewhere, but I stopped. "Wait, wait! What's down there?" I pointed down yet another dark hall. "That's the east wing...I don't go in that part of the house.." Flora said outloud. "Why not?" I asked. "Don't wanna.." I walked into a large bedroom, Flora was jumping on the bed. "This is your room! I hope you like the bedding." Flora walked around. "This is my room?" I asked in shock. "Yep!" She spun in a circle. "Wow, this is all for me?" "Yep!" Flora repeated again. "Oh, this is my great-grandmother Sophie." "You stuffed your grandma?" "No silly head," Flora ran her fingers along the jawline of the mannequin. "It's just supposed to look like her." "Oh, I see." I said. "Well, uh.. she's.. she's creepy, huh?" Flora responded with "I think she's pretty." Flora ran up to a door, pushing it open. "Behold! My great-grandmothers sewing room! My mother used to take me shopping when I was little. But after she died, Miss Jessel started making all of my clothes for me." She stood behind a gorgeous dress, "Well that one's beautiful." "Miss Jessel never got to finish this one before she left. It was for my birthday." Flora started singing as she grabbed the arms of the plastic base, "Hello! I am a mannequin!" I walked over to a mannequin that had red pins around the boobs of the cloth. "Hm..what is this?" I looked at Flora. "Um....yeah..Miles did that. I told him it was tacky." Oh great.. I'm gonna be living with a horny teenager. Pure joy. "Yikes."

I got out of bed and walked out of my room. I still hadn't changed yet, but I kept hearing noises so I went to look at where it was coming from. It was a hall of books, or something. I had just came out of a room, because the window had been open. The door shut and locked itself. I wiggled the knob. The door slammed open, and there was a young boy my age, quite tall with black curly hair. I jumped back startled. "Who are you?" I asked out of fright. "I'm Miles. I live here." He replied. I sighed in relief, "I mean.. um.. what are you doing home?" I asked. "You shouldn't be in here." "I..I know, I thought I heard something." He laughed. "You should go to bed." He smiled and walked off. I was still trying to catch my breath. I ran up to him. "You said you're Miles, right? Flora's brother?" I asked. "No, I'm obviously Miles her dad." He stared at me. "Mrs. Grose said that your parents were dead.." I said quietly. Miles stopped walking and turned to me. "I was joking," he put his hand on my shoulder and whispered into my ear. "And don't comment about my parents death. I'll kill you next time." I shivered, something about his voice was very calming yet terrifying. He slipped his hand down to my waist and pinched me. "Ow, Miles! That hurt." I yelled. He put his hand on my mouth. "Don't yell. You'll wake up Flora." He grabbed my hand and kissed it. "Now, save your precious facial expressions for tomorrow. I can do a lot more in 24 hours than I can in 10 minutes." I stood in fear. "Is that.. a threat, Miles..?" You asked nervously. "To hurt you, maybe. To scare you, maybe. To warm up to you, maybe. Now, for the third time, go get some rest." You followed Miles into his room. "No! Now you've scared me." I told him. I pouted. "You lay on the floor, or you lay in your room, in your bed." You sat on the floor, smiling at Miles. "I already don't like you. You're so needy." "Fine, how about I sleep in my room, and you lay on the floor!" I recommended. "I'd lay in your bed. I do not sleep on the floor." Miles made a motion for me to get out but I ignored him. "You're bed is literally on the floor." I told Miles. He got up from his bed and grabbed a tape roll. He places a piece of duct tape over my mouth. Miles grabbed my hands and put me in handcuffs. "How are you enjoying those chains, hm?" He pulled off his shirt. I bit through the tape. "Damn, do you workout?" "Yes." "Can you un-handcuff me?" "No." "Can you get my a change of clothes from my suitcase?" "Yes." There was a long pause. He was just standing there. He laughed. "I said I can but that doesn't mean I will." "Please just take these off, they hurt. And I need to change!" I told Miles. "In here?" He asked. "What?" "Are you gonna change in here?" "What? No!" "Then, no. I will not be taking those handcuffs off." You started to whine. "But they hurt! Miles please? It hurts a lot! Just take them off!" Miles rolled his eyes. You put your head against the wall and closed your eyes. You started banging your head on the wall. "Wha- Hey! Quit." He told me. I started banging my head louder. "Knock it off!" He came closer to me. "I reached to grab a pocket knife that was laying on his floor. "Put that down. You're gonna hurt yourself!" Miles grabbed the knife. "Let me go! These are hurting me! Im bleeding!" Miles put the pocket knife up. He walked over to you, loosening them a little bit. "Is that better?" You shook your head. "Take them off!" Miles grabbed your arm. "Hey! Let go of me!" He looked at you, and smiled. "No." He put you on his bed and laid down beside you. He turned me over to face him. I was scared. He put his arm around you then kissed your head. "You're safe. I promise." You got up and stared at Miles. "Take them off, I wanna sleep in my room, now!" Miles stood up and put his hand around my waist. He walked me to my room. "I'm sorry if I scared you. I don't want people to be afraid of me." "I'm not afraid of you, I'm afraid of what you'll do to me." He placed me on my bed, and removed the handcuffs. Miles laid beside me. "What are you doing?" I asked. "You wanted me in here, right? You didn't feel safe enough to sleep in here. I'm just tired, so don't expect me to always be this nice. When I wake up, I'm probably gonna be giving you demands, yelling at you, threatening you. Don't get used to this." You moved away from Miles. "Right.. sorry, didn't mean to make you nervous." He pulled you back into him.

"Y/N! This is Miles!" Mrs. Grose had made them pancakes. She drizzled syrup onto hers. "Nice to meet you, Miles." You smiled. He gave you a death stare. The phone began to ring. "I'll get it!" Flora yelled. "So, do you ride horses? I can teach you, if you want." He winked at you. "I mean, if you can handle it." Mrs. Grose waled out of the room to grab me a plate of food. "In your dreams Miles." I replied. "Yeah.. my wet dreams." He laughed and looked down. Your face get really red. "It's Miles' school, they wanna talk to the person in charge!" Flora said running over to me.
