Albedo's eyes had always carried far too much light. Too many fractures of light, too many hues. The colour of the ocean. It's ironic how the ocean is so vast and open yet Albedo's eyes reveal nothing of him. There is nothing to know of him as the stars don't reflect on the void. Nothing to know about the unknowable. The unhuman.
It drove Mona crazy.
From their first encounter to the many that followed after, she told herself she only spent time with him because his research was valuable to her work. Not the first time she lied to herself.
Truthfully it was frustrating not being able to read someone when they can read you. It was frustrating that Albedo was beautiful.
After all, as the old hag had said, beautiful things hide ugly truths. Amongst Albedo's beauty, there was a darkness that followed him.
Mona didn't realise what the darkness could do.
Nor what it could do to him.

The moment a lady came into laboratory with Klee walking beside her pouting, he knew precisely how what happened.
"I take it you got in trouble with Kaeya?"
"Yes..." the girl says sulking.
"Jean asked this lady to bring you here?"
"Yes..." Klee proceeds to hide behind the astrologist.
"You realise this is the eight time this month?"
"Yes..." she sniffed.
"And what do we do when you reach the eight consequence of the month?"
Klee took out Dodoco and gives it to his brother with tear welling her eyes. "You take Dodoco from me until I die."
"Now Klee," Albedo laughed softly, bending down to pull her into an embrace and run his fingers through her hair. "You will get her back after a week with no trouble. I'm not that cruel."
Albedo looked up to where Mona stared at him. Skepticism written in her expression. She blinked out of her daze once their eyes lock. Star designs woven in her clothing, most intriguing.
"And who is this nice lady who has so generously brought you here?"
"Oh right!" Klee brightened up right away. "This is Mona! She really really likes the stars."
"Mona Megistus, the astrologist that now resides in Mondstadt, correct?" Albedo extends his hand, he composes himself and extends a hand. "I am Albedo. Chief Alchemist of the Knights of Favonius. Pleasured to make your acquaintance."
"So you have heard of me," Mona smiled. "Call me Mona..."
The astrologist's eyes wandered on him, she looked as if she was trying to figure something out.
Ah, she must have realised that she can't read into him. That he is unhuman.
Albedo started to retreat his hand but Mona immediately grabs his hand and shakes vigorously.
"Sorry I was in my head aha!" she heaved a sigh. "Nice to meet you! I should get going."
As Mona leaves, Klee, who had been unsually quiet, speaks up bubbly, "This is exactly what happened in 'The Mysterious Lover'! where the lady thought the stanger was sooo handsome that she couldn't even see that he wanted to handshake with her!"
"Lisa has to stop reading you Jean's romance novels..." Albedo shakes his head.
✧・゚: *✧・゚:*
Cold eyes, cold hands.
Though the warmth in his voice threw her off completely.
That was the first time they met. A pure coincidence. The times they met afterwards was out of her own interest. She might have denied it before but she knows now. Albedo has always interested and frustrated her. Thought these feelings only ever got more intense the second time they had touched.
Where the cold felt nice all a sudden.
Well it was after Mona adjusted to the freezing pain in the ass that is Dragonspine.
"You should really go home," Albedo's voice gave her a fright.
Mona went to his laboratory early morning where the alchemist was awake. His bed was exactly the same way it was left. She would know since she ate dinner there the day before. (And yes, it was for research purposes only)
"And you should stop staying up with your work," Mona frowned. "When did you sleep yesterday?"
"I... don't quite recall," he murmured sleepily.
"Ah... in that case," Mona walked right over to his bed, patting the space next to her. "C'mere, I have a gift for you."
Suddenly the sleepiness blinks out of him and his pretty ocean eyes widened.
"NO! N-Not that type of gift!" Mona flushed bright scarlet. "Just come... it's something I think you need."
Albedo nodded slowly and cleared his throat, a soft red hue tinting his cheeks. "Alright then."
He perched right next to her, obviously still flustered with how he adverted his eyes.
No one can be that cute embarrassed...
"Well... first you have to close your eyes."
"... Right," Albedo fluttered his eyes shut.
"It will take a second. I'll count down 10 and then you can open your eyes," Mona whispered. "Okay, 10... 9... 8... "
She paused. Albedo was visibly still. His face shone in the morning light. A beauty indeed.
"Albedo..? You're awfully pale-"
The alchemist fell forward into Mona's arms, draping his arms over her shoulders. "Mmh work.. " he whispered faintly. Cold breaths lingering on her neck.
Shaking such thoughts, she shifted the alchemist under the blacket and pulled up the sheets. Tucking him in bed like he was a child.
Mona brushed stray blond hair from his face. It was as if she touched the surface of ice.
Why is everything about this man so impossibly cold?
Albedo really is the unhuman. Mona doesn't mind however, she found comfort in holding him. And what if one day... she could call him 'mine' ?
The high pitched squeal that came out of her throat was completely unvoluntary.
The unhuman.
Mona looks back at their memories.
Even the unhuman cannot escape their fate.
