Welcome to a story I wrote instead of writing my main novel! If you know what's going on here, please tell me because I don't really know. Inspiration credit goes to author of the Dorothy Must Die series, Danielle Paige (@DaniellePaige139). Enjoy the story!

Another day in the boring life. Every day, I do the same thing over and over again. I wake up, get ready, go to school, come home, eat, and go to bed. It basically never changes. My father is almost never home, so I'm responsible for getting the groceries—which isn't much of a task considering that I'm shopping for myself—and getting myself to school.

While I'm at school, I follow my other routine: go to my classes, so my work, and avoid socialization. It's not that hard since nobody really talks to me, anyway. The good news is that I only have one year of high school left after this, so there's at least something to motivate me.

I walked through the crowded halls down to the cafeteria to get a bottle of water, one of my AirPods in my ear. I hummed quietly to the tune, moving into my own world. I held my book close to ensure its safety from the dangers of the stuffed halls. My path was interrupted by a figure popping out from behind a corner. I bumped into him, immediately mumbling and apology. I lifted my head to see who it was, and I wasn't surprised at who it was.

"Watch where you're going," he scolded me.

"Maybe you shouldn't come around corners without expecting someone to be there, too, Cameron," I said back. I straightened my back to match his height, though I was a few inches taller.

"What's this?" he asked, yanking the book from my hand.

"Give it back," I demanded, reaching for it. He held it away from me and started flipping through the pages. I tried grabbing the book from him, but he only held it tighter. "You're going to crease it!"

"I'm going to crease it? Why would that matter?"

"Because I like to keep my books pristine. Now please if you're going to put your hands on it, at least pretend like you care about it."

"What's this?" He stopped at the place where my bookmark was and held up the thin plastic strip. He closed the book and let go of the bookmark, letting it fall to the ground. I swiped my book back and bent down to pick up its accessory.

"I know where I left off, anyway," I mumbled.

"Maybe you should socialize more. It might help with your likability."

"Maybe you should read more. It might help with your intellection."

"Are you calling me stupid?"

"I don't know, that depends on whether you know what intellection means. Maybe you would know if you read a book or two once in a while."

He had a scornful look on his face. I defeated him today. I looked him dead in the eyes, waiting to claim my victory.

"Reading is for dorks, anyway," he mumbled. He sauntered off, leaving me back in the nearly empty corridor of the school. The bell rang indicating the start of classes. Before I was stopped, I was on my way to lunch, but I was wasting time standing here now. I changed my route and made my way to the library instead. I didn't need water, anyway.

I spent the last hours of the day staying away from most people, especially Cameron. I didn't make eye contact with anyone, hoping I'd just be left alone. When the final bell rang, I picked up my backpack and walked out the nearest exit, starting my journey home. I didn't live too far, so it didn't take long. Although I enjoy driving, walking is better for me in the long run, both financially and physically. I unlocked the door with my key and allowed myself inside. I dropped my bag next to the couch and I plopped down in the soft cushions. I let myself relax and close my eyes, and I drifted off into a peaceful slumber.

Congratulations! You made it through the first part! I hope you enjoyed this random thing I decided to write. More hopefully coming soon!
