Why is he turned to the bed? It's like he wants me to see.. Fubuki's mind screamed.
Shu slipped the vest down his shoulders and into a sleek black hanger, laying it out on the foot of the bed. He quickly unravelled his tie, then began on the buttons of his pink dress shirt. By the time the first two buttons popped open, Fubuki refrained from eyeing the show. It wasn't fair- why was he given a chance that he couldn't commit to? The rustling of clothes as Shu meticulously peeled off his clothes seemed mocking. Fubuki couldn't exploit Shu's trust to get a free show. He just couldn't.
The sound of the hanger hooking onto the pole in Shu's closet alerted Fubuki to feign sleepiness. He doubted he could fool Shu up close so he's just pretend to wake up.
The mattress dipped on Fubuki's left.
"Hmm..?" Fubuki groaned with his best imitation of grogginess. "Shu?" Luckily, his voice was hoarse from his prior sleep.
"Oh, I'm sorry to have woken you," Shu said, voice low and soothing like a lullaby.
"No, It's alright. It wasn't you," Fubuki replied, peering at Shu's face so close, he could note so much more- the faint shadows below his eyes and the look of exhaustion consuming him. "What time is it?"
Shu hummed as he retrieved his black phone from the adjacent table. The artificial light blinking on for a mere second.
"3:48, you should go back to sleep."
That alarmed Fubuki as he bolted up into a sitting position to make eye contact with Shu- his grogginess vanishing. Shu's eyebrows raised at the abrupt act.
"... Are you alright?" Shu exclaimed, surprised.
"Don't tell me you worked all those hours without a break, Shu. I know you have a habit of pushing yourself, but you're still human." Fubuki chided, upset with these recurring bad habits.
There have been times where Shu felt faint and would stumble since his visit and Fubuki wanted nothing more than to elevate his condition."I'm fine really," Shu smiled genuinely, he had such a thoughtful student. "Come on, let's go back to sleep."
Fubuki wanted to protest but held his tongue. He knew how much Shu needed this sleep. He slumped back to his side which was considerably warmer than Shu's area.
Shu sinked under the covers, the presence prominent. Fubuki couldn't believe this was actually happening. Shu's hair fanned around him and Fubuki could see the colour of his navy sleeping suit from the covers."Fubuki?"
"Yes?"
"How long have you been awake for?"
A lump formed in Fubuki's throat, should he lie? No? Yes? Urgh, he didn't know!
"Just a minute or two before you came. Why?" A half truth.
"Nothing in particular. So you didn't see anything?"
"Was there something to see?" Playing dumb was a good deflct.
"No, not really."
"Good night, Shu."
"Good night."
They had space between them, Fubuki laid on his side facing Shu whilst Shu was on his back. Without a noise, they both drifted to sleep.
