"Thanks," she grins at the shaggy-haired guy, taking the pen from his hands. Her mind was buzzing with curiosity on how he knew she needed one, but she decided to shake her thoughts off and replace them with gratitude instead.

Scott tried so hard to think of something, anything apart from her brown locks and dazzling smile. He thought he was moving on, he took interest in another girl, he tried to ignore the ache in his chest whenever he sees Allison with Isaac. But that night, when he held her in his arms, it felt like nothing compared to breaking up with her for the first time, or realizing she was probably falling for someone else.
He felt great pain, a kind of which he didn't want to suffer from again. It was like his own life was slipping from his fingers, while all things that could create such pain was swallowing him whole. One could only endure so much pain, and for a moment he thought of dying with her, ending all his suffering and furthermore pain that he'll feel in the near future. But then he looked around, to all his friends, and returned his gaze to Allison. She wouldn't want him giving up, he knew that. Or else she would've died for nothing, and Scott couldn't allow that to happen.
So, tried as he might, he stood his ground. For Lydia, Kira, Isaac, hell, even for Ethan and Aiden. He tried for Derek and Peter, and his best friend Stiles who felt so much guilt for what happened. He tried for Chris Argent, who could only mask his pain by being strong, and lastly he tried for himself.
He still remembers the day after he got bitten. He heard her conversation with her mother, and that she forgot to bring a pen. They were but a bunch of sophomores, who would've thought they would go through so much?
And then she walked inside the classroom, in tow with their principal. Scott was fascinated by her strong face structures and her shy gazes. And she just had to sit close to him. He pulled out an extra pen from his case and handed it to her slyly, and instead of being crept out, she offered a huge grin instead, a silent 'Thank You' that Scott had understood.
Scott fought back a sob as he shoved his face in his arms, thinking he was alone in his home. He couldn't help but feel responsible for her death, maybe if he was fast enough or he was paying attention he would've seen the Oni and stopped it from stabbing her. Maybe she wouldn't be dead by now.
Hot tears fell from his eyes to his arms, his muffled cries loud enough to get the attention of his mother.
"Honey," she says, rubbing his back in a soothing way only a mother can. "It wasn't your fault."
"I didn't even get the chance to tell her that I loved her, too." he tells her, shaking his head. If only this was just a dream, a nightmare, he would do anything just to wake up.
"I'm sure she knew, darling." she reassured him, wrapping her arms around her lone son.
"I love her so much," he adds, not even bothering to wipe the tears under his eyes.
Scott knew he'd never love anyone as much as he loved Allison Argent, his first love.
He'll never truly and deeply fall in love with someone else, because Allison had claimed that part of his heart hers long ago. Yes, he'll take interest in other girls, but no one will ever compare to his fallen love.
"You fall in love more than once," his mother once told him.
Somehow, it was hard to believe that, even if his mother said that in the sincerest way possible.
