"Hi, my name is Elizabeth and I am eighteen years old. My favorite color is purple and I love cats. Cats make me happy because they are soft and my cat, Rayne, is probably my best friend."
It has been exactly eleven years since the accident and Lizzy had been living in the house with her only biological parent that was alive, her father. Lizzy had been very careful not to upset him because he was mainly drunk and he yelled at her quite often. He was rather tall and very strict when it came to how Lizzy was able to act and speak. Lizzy never really knew her mother because she had died when Lizzy was two years old. Rayne had always been there to look out for Elizabeth when their father would come home drunk. Her father had once come home so drunk and angry that he started to beat Lizzy but soon after he struck her the first time Rayne had run into the living room and tackled her father to protect her younger sister.
"If you want to hit someone make it me." she stared at her father in the eye with her arms stretched out to protect Lizzy.
"Have it your way." he snarled and began beating Rayne until she could no longer stand.Elizabeth often found herself thinking of that day when her father beat her in a drunken rage which lead to her shedding a few tears because of the fact that she missed her sister.
Ever since the day of the accident Lizzy had been going to group therapy with other teenagers that lost someone that they were emotionally attached to.
"Why are you with us today?" asked the only adult Lizzy trusted, Mrs.Dawn. Lizzy had been daydreaming and found herself lost in her own little world until Mrs.Dawn snapped her fingers right in front of Lizzy's face, breaking the daze from which she was lost in. Lizzy quickly looked up afraid because the last time this had happened her father beat her while screaming that he didn't waste his money for her to daydream about the past.
"Please don't tell my father!" Lizzy begged as she started to tear up.Mrs.Dawn looked rather confused at first but nodded her head agreeing not to tell Lizzy's father.
"Who's next?" Mrs.Dawn surveyed the room and chose a boy that resembled Killian. It was obvious to Lizzy that he had never been to one of these group meetings before because when Mrs.Dawn called on him to share he looked down and his face turned a bright red. Lizzy felt strangely more comfortable upon looking at his face. She instantaneously fell in love with his bright green eyes that were almost covered by his fairly long black hair.
She eagerly awaited to hear his voice thinking that it must be almost as beautiful as his face and then without a warning he looked at her and with a quiet voice he said, "My name is Brenden and I am nineteen years of age. My favorite color is dark red and my favorite band is Get Scared. I have three cats named Agent James, Lillith Marie, and Killian James."
Lizzy's eyes widened and she began to blush which made Brenden blush. Lizzy had never felt this way about anyone since her sister had died. She swore off dating because she was afraid to get close to anyone again. Lizzy didn't want to lose anyone else which is why she didn't have any friends besides her cat.
"Thank you Brenden, that's enough. Okay you guys, I am going to be putting you all into pairs of two and you will be assigned a coping method that I want you to study and report back next Thursday with similar methods, the origin of that method, and the success rate of the coping method you have been assigned. I am putting you into pairs so you will be able to build up your social skills. Kat you will be working with James. Rosalin, I want you to work with Quinn. Brenden could you please work with Lizzy? Finally I want Rocket to work with Alec." Lizzy couldn't believe what Mrs.Dawn had just done. Not only was Lizzy horrified to talk to anyone, now she would have to talk to a guy she thought was cute. Why did Mrs.Dawn have decided on TODAY to be a matchmaker?
