In a Week

Chapter 1 𐮚

Today was a day I would miss. It was one of those days that you'll never forget, maybe you broke a rule or two but you can't help but feel no guilt, only happiness. Iris has been my best friend from the moment we met, and Reya has been the sweetest person in my life since forever. We all love to read, so that means that we absolutely need to spend a day in the forest, go for a swim in a lake, have a picnic with the upmost amazing sandwiches, and that's exactly what we did. "I'm choosing the music on the way home, you guys got to choose earlier," Iris announces to us while putting on Angel of Small Death and The Codeine Scene by Hozier on. "God I'm so glad you like this song now," I tell her from the backseat. "I can't believe I ever disliked it," she responds. "I really don't want to go back to school," Reya says, she puts on her blinker and turns, "I just don't want to see people. But did you guys hear that Dae is coming back this year?"
Dae's coming back?
Dae. Dae has always been who I went to when I felt my worst, no mater what he always made me feel welcomed, safe, and loved. You may ask why not Iris? Iris is my best friend, she's the person who understands me the most, but Dae believes in me more than anyone.

"He is?," Me and Iris ask at the same time.
"Yes he is Iris which means now you can tell
him about your undying love for him," Reya says with a giggle
"Oh shut it Rey-Rey!," Iris gives her a little push.
I laugh from the backseat.
While Rey continues to torture Iris about her utter love for Dae I stare out the window. The sky is going dark and the stars and moon are beginning to shine. Looking out I can't help but think back to the last time I saw Dae, that was also a time to miss.
"Uhhhh hello? Amaya!," Iris says waving a hand in my face.
"Oh- what? Sorry,"
"You just like totally zoned out for a minute,"
"Sorry, i was just thinking about that last time I saw him,"
"Mmm-hmmm,"
"When was the last time you saw him?," Reya asks me
"A couple months ago I think,"
Two months ago to be exact
"Where,?" Iris asks tentatively                                       𐮚
"Where are we exactly?," Dae questions me
"We, are at my favorite place," I respond
"And how did I, earn the honor of seeing this beautiful place?,"
"Because I thought you would like it,"
"Thank you. Seriously though it's so beautiful,"
"I know,"
We lay down the blanket on the soft grass and set up the picnic. The trees are at their greenest, and the flowers are all in bloom, bathed in the rising sun. The lake is clear and the air is crisp. I get a sandwich and take a bite, "God I love pesto sandwiches"
"So I made them good?," he asks
"Yes, yes you did,"
"So how's school?,"
I take another bite, "Mmm it's okay, most days are pretty good. I just wish I could avoid all the people I don't like,"
"Which would be a lot of people?,"
"No-,"
"No,?" He gives me a grin, "I would assume it'd be more than half the school.
"Dae, I don't get that annoyed by people," I declare
He gives me a look.
"Okay fine yes."
He chuckles and I laugh too.
"How's the crew?," by crew he means, me, Iris, Reya, and Timmy.
"You know we're not much of a crew anymore. You're gone, Timmy has his girlfriend, Reya has her girlfriend, so it's just me and Iris most of the time," I say
"Okay then well how is Iris?," he inquirers
"You know, you should ask her that yourself. She'd be glad to hear from you. Any of them would," I give him a pointed look
He looks away for a moment,"Maybe I'll give each of them a call......"
I wait for him to finish, "If you jump into the lake right now."
I scoff,"First of all you should just give them a call. They're your friends after all. And second we were going swimming anyways, what kind of dare is that?"
"First off, I've wanted to go swimming from the moment we got here but you're taking forever to eat your sandwich. Second if they're my friends why didn't they call me?," he noted.
"Look I don't know, everyone has their own shit going on right now. Let's just go swimming since you want to so badly," I start to take of my shoes off when Dae gets up and starts running towards the lake.
"I'll race you!," he yells
"Hey that's not fair! You know I don't want to ruin this dress!," I shout
He turns back and gives me a daring smile,"I did say now."
He, sadly, beats me to the lake.
Right when I jump in I squeal, the water is cold and the sun has fully risen making the lake gleam.
I make my way over to where Dae is floating and tackle him. Despite my attempts to kept him under water he pushes me up, "How dare you try to drown me. Honestly Maya I'm offended," he puts his hand to his chest.
"Oh come on I'm just having a bit of fun.," I beam at him
He shakes his head,"You and your fun."
The rest of the morning we splashed water at eachother, had a couple more attempted drownings, and when we got out we were both soaking wet. We packed up the picnic and took the stuff to our cars. When it was time to say goodbye I gave him a kiss on the cheek and he moved a wet wave of hair out of my face, "Until next time Maya"
"Until next time Dae,"
I hope next time is soon, driving off I never realized just how much I missed him. I mean I knew I missed him. But seeing him again was like the sun coming out after it's been raining for years.
