Sigyn and Loki were enjoying their beautiful home garden - which, thanks to Sigyn's magic, thrived any time of year - when the peacefulness of the afternoon was shattered by angry voices from inside the house.
"No Vali!""Give it back, Nari!"
Sigyn heaved a sigh. "I'll get it," and headed inside where she found her sons in the middle of a heated argument.
The youngers, who didn't fight often as they were very close, but as brothers did have the occasionally brotherly argument, were currently fighting for control of what the Midgardian's called an 'iPad'.
"Boys! Stop fighting!" Sigyn appeared at their sides, summoned in from the garden by all the shouting.
"But it's my turn!"
"I haven't even had a turn yet!"
"Let's take this away for a while-" Sigyn plucked the machine from her sons' hands, now causing a lot of complaining.
"But Mum!"
"This is your fault!"
"No, yours!" Now the brothers were back to arguing.
"Hey, hey! No fighting, please." She crouched down to look at them. "Remember, you are strong apart, but together, you are stronger." Her boys blinked back at her before sharing a glance.
"What's going on?" Loki appeared, summoned by the continuous shouting. "All I could hear was yelling."
"Brotherly argument."
"Ah, I see. Who won?"
"Loki." She rolled her eyes.
"Mum took away our iPad cause we were fighting over it," grumbled Vali.
"Oh well, you don't need that to have fun, silly Midgardian inventions that we've had for centuries! How about I tell you a story, one of brotherly feud."
"Is it about you and Uncle Thor?"
"It is. It has to do with a snake. We were eight years old at the time..."
"When will Uncle Thor be back?" asked Nari.
"Yeah, I miss him," agreed Vali.
"I don't know, Love," Sigyn answered truthfully.
"I hope he comes back soon."
"We all do, but your Uncle Thor is very busy."
"Being a hero," Loki mumbled, only slightly mockingly, earning a pointed look from his wife.
"Do you think he's fighting lots of bad guys?"
Now the boys were back to playing together.
Their parents watched fondly. "I told them that they are strong apart, but together, they are stronger. Sound familiar?"
"Hmm." Even Loki had to admit it.
"Mum, can we watch some TV?"
"You know, I think we've had enough screen time today - let's go out, it's such a lovely day."
And so the family - with only mild grumbling from the twins - took to the streets of their new home. New Asgard was certainly very different from the Asgard of Sigyn and Loki's own childhood, but it was home. As they were constantly being reminded, Asgard wasn't a place, it was a people.
But whether a place or people, New Asgard was thriving.
"Can we mock the tourists again?" the boys asked, giggling.
"No!" Sigyn said, not pleased with this thing Loki had started with all the tourists.
"I still don't know how I feel about all this," Loki admitted as they strolled along, the boys running on ahead. "I still wish our sons got to experience the Asgard of old."
"Me too, but not everything was good about that either."
"Mum, Dad! Can we get ice cream?!"
"You had ice cream yesterday!"
"So?!"
Their walk led them into the centre of town. Across the field, guarded by King Valkyrie's own guards, were the shards of Mjölnir where they had been, unmovable, since Hela had destroyed them all those years ago, all that was left of the great Hammer of Thor.
A tour was currently being given, with the guide explaining the hammer's significance. Once the tour group moved on, a person in jeans and a hoodie who had stood off to the side slowly approached.
Sigyn joined them. "Remarkable isn't it?"
"Oh-" The person seemed surprised by her presence. "Yes, absolutely-" Then the person - a woman - seemed to recognize her, and Sigyn recognized her back.
"Jane?"
"Sigyn."
Dr. Jane Foster, Thor's former Midgardian love.
"My gods - it's been ages. How are you?" Sigyn asked.
"I'm okay," Jane admitted.
"It's good to see you again."
"You as well."
"What brings you to New Asgard?" Was it Thor? Had he and Jane rekindled their relationship?
"It's really strange - maybe you can help me actually. I swear I could hear Mjölnir call out to me from back home."
"Oh - that is strange, but not impossible I suppose. But I thought its power was gone now that it's destroyed."
"That would make sense," Jane agreed. "But being the scientist I am, I had to come investigate."
Both women leaned in and examined the hammer shards more closely. Almost instantly, the sky darkened above them, and a sudden storm began to roll in. Not only that, but the shards themselves began to flicker with little sparks of lightning.
Something was happening. "Jane - get back!"
But it was too late.
"Sigyn!"
"Mummy!"
Loki and the boys rushed towards her as she was thrown back as the case holding the shards exploded in a burst of a sudden lightning storm.
"Get back!" she hollered to them. Then turned back to the Midgardian. "Jane!"
But Jane was gone - she had been consumed in a blast of lightning.
(I stand corrected: I do like Thor and Jane's relationship - at least after what we learned in this movie!
Such a great movie! And I'm so sorry for the delay - I know where I wanted to go with this chapter, just now how to get there. And just as I was getting ready to finish this chapter, my internet went out for several hours! Terrible timing!
Thank you so much for your patience and for reading and I hope you enjoyed this chapter! :))
