"Oh, you silly boy! She's been waiting for you to return."
—————
Y/N really didn't expect anyone to come knocking at her door since the day her fiancés left her. She definitely did not expect a man made of goop and grime to almost break down her door, knocking on it as if he wanted to break all the bones in his fist. Did he even have any bones? Another one of the many questions Y/N had when she opened the door.
"Y/N from L'manberg?" The man of green gasps for air.
"Yes...? Who are you?" She asks cautiously, sticking close to her door and observing the stranger.
Globs of green goo drip onto her welcome mat as he holds a finger up cartoonishly, panting dramatically. He wears a pair of square glasses, a buttoned up shirt with suspenders, and a green tie to finish the attire.
It hits her then as she stares at the familiar tie she gave away so long ago. Shit. This man is from Las Nevadas.
As if he hears her panicked thoughts, the stranger lifts his head. "Y/N from L'manberg!" He exclaims loudly, his voice still shaky from running. "Quackity from Las Nevadas needs your help!"
Yep, she's closing the door now, but Quackity's friend or something shoves his hand in-between the door and its frame stubbornly. Damn his quick reflexes.
"Quackity from Las Nevadas needs your help," he repeats, and she notices the slight desperation in his voice this time.
Still, she shuts her eyes and shakes her head. "I don't want to see him," she mutters lowly. "I'm sure someone else can help him."
"He needs you," the stranger argues back, not moving an inch. "He said your name. He said Y/N from L'manberg."
Oh, she finds that hard to believe. Maybe she doesn't want to. She doesn't want that mess of a relationship back in her life again. Karl and Sapnap had left her, and Quackity soon after. He chose to live a life without her.
Still, that pain in her chest remains. The rings her fiancés left on her are still coldly wrapped around her finger. She never could find it in herself to take them off. Reluctantly, she asks the man what happened.
"H-His wings are bleeding and he's very upset," his voice wobbles, cracking as he looks like he's struggling to hold back from crying on the spot. "He mentioned you — said you were the only one that could help him."
It sounds serious, she thinks, and she hates herself for worrying again. She shouldn't have to worry at all anymore. She should be moving on, forgetting the people that left her with a stinging heartbreak that burdened her for months. And yet, she slowly cracks open the door wide enough for the stranger to retract his hand, eyes wide as he stares at her.
"What's your name?" She raises her head to look at the man in the eye for the first time since he arrived at her doorstep. His eyes are lined with tears, yet relief is visible as his shoulders loosen at the simple question.
"Quackity from Las Nevadas calls me Slime," he chirps, seemingly recovered from his near mental breakdown. "You can call me that too!"
She raises a brow at that, discomfort tingling her spine. She can't help but chew at her inner cheek. "Just... Slime?" Quackity would just call a man what he's made of? Not even a name? Has he really changed that much?
"Quackity from Las Nevadas has not given me a real name yet," Slime says cheerfully. Y/N is almost glad how unaware Slime is of how inhumane it sounds.
"Can... Can I give you a name then?" Y/N asks softly, letting a small smile rest on her features reassuringly. "Sorry, calling you Slime is a bit weird to me. It's fine if you want me to call you that though—"
