"So do we go in or do we just stand here reenacting 'The Little Match Girl'?" I ask.

"I'm guessing Mom is just gathering the courage to ring the doorbell."

"Precisely." Mom then takes a deep breath, walks forward and rings the doorbell.

"Hey Grandma." Rory and I say in unison.

"Hi Mom."

"Well you're right on time."

"Yeah, yeah no traffic at all."

"I can't tell you what a treat it is to have you girls here." Grandma says taking our coats.

"Oh well, we're excited too."

"Is that a collector's cup or can I throw it away for you?" She asks referring to the coffee cup in Moms hand. Mom then walks to a rubbish bin when Grandma says "In the kitchen please."

"Oh sorry."

"So I want to hear all about Chilton." Grandma takes Rory's hands leading her to the living room. Rory has always been everyone's favorite. I'm not so sure what she has that I don't other than a brain but oh well.

"Well I haven't actually started yet." They both walk off leaving Mom and I in the foyer.

"Stuff it." With that Mom drops her coffee cup into the bin Grandma told her not to and we walk arm in arm into the living room.

"Richard, look who's here."

"Rory! You're tall." Grandpa says.

"I guess." Mom and I just sit down we are kind of used to feeling forgotten in this house when it comes to Rory and Grandma together. That's why I secretly like Grandpa more.

"What's your height?"

"5'7."

"That's tall, she's tall. What about you Chloe how tall are you?"

"Uh actually it's CJ now and I'm 5'6."

"Well that's tall too and I like CJ it's modern, modern is good."

"Hi Dad." Mom says from beside me.

"Why hello Lorelai, your daughters are tall."

"I know, it's freakish. I'm thinking of having them studied at M.I.T."

"That would be a sight." Grandpa says with a smile.

"Champagne anyone?" Grandma asks bringing around a tray with filled glasses.

"That's fancy." Mom says as we each grab one.

"Well it's not everyday that I have my girls here for dinner on the day the banks are open. A toast. To Rory entering Chilton and an exciting new phase in her life."

"Here here." Grandpa says with his nose in the paper.

"Well let's sit everyone." Grandma says even though it is only her and Rory still standing. "This is just wonderful. An education is the most important thing, next to family."

"And pie." Mom says elbowing me and snickering.

"Yeah and fries." I say giving her a little chuckle. Grandma and Rory just stare at us while Grandpa smiles behind his new paper. "Joke, it was a joke." We then move to the dinning room for dinner after the maid came and announced it was ready and then Grandma barked at her because it was 6:58pm not 7:00pm. We go through the salad with little to no talk. Then dinner comes out.

"So Grandpa how's the insurance biz?" I question.

"Oh you know. People die, we pay. People crash cars, we pay. People lose a foot, we pay."
