Danzo's plan was all coming together. He used is mangekyou sharingan to put the 9 tailed beast in a genjustu causing him to rampage around the leaf village. An event that would lead to the Fourth Hokage's death. Several years later he informed the Raikage to attack the leaf in hopes of getting a byakugan. When the Cloud village attacked the leaf the 2 tailed beast got unleashed causing destruction of the village. Hitome (Hinata's mother) died protecting her oldest daughter from the cloud ninja. The Third Hokage died sealing the tailed beast inside of the oldest Hyuga heir. The leaf village would eventually push pack the Raikage's forces and they retreated. After the village recovered from the incident, the leaf's elder made Danzo the Fifth Hokage of Konaha. Danzo allowed Shisui and Itachi to stop the Uchiha's plan to destroy the leaf preventing the Uchiha massacre. Danzo needed the Uchiha's alive for his plan to work.
