It was my first day in an American school. To be completed honest. I was surprised that my father agreed to bring me into a co-ed school. Since back in South Africa I was in an all girl school. It wasnt bad though. I was a bit nervous as i finally realised all of this was real.
My first day at an American school. I expected a lot since all those vlogs and tiktoks of people on school made it look so good.
As i walked into the school the halls were scattered with students laughing and making their daily commute. Me on the other hand was struggling to find the principals office. "Hey you!" I heard a voice call out from behind me. I shut my eyes tightly, sighing softly behind my mask. I urned around and saw a girl running up to me. She wore black stocking with a white skirt and some sort if band t-shirt tucked into the waistline. Her hair had long blonde hair that reached her elbows. 'here it comes' I guess my plan worked.
Before walking into the school i had planned to just aimlessly walk around like a lost puppy before an extrovert took pity on me. Which worked.
When she finally reached me I looked at her with hopeful eyes. "Youre new right?" I nodded slowly. "Uhm yeah" i responded. "Great! The principal asked me to find you and take you to his office" I looked around. 'she must be some sort of "class president" or something'
She then took my hand and led me down the halls. I made sure to memorize the layout even though I was sure I would forget it later. Hopefully they'll be nice enough to give me a map or something. "You look really cute by the way" she said with a smile. I looked down at my outfit wuth confusion. I was wearing hight waisted black mom jeans with a stained t-shirt and white converse shoes. And dont even get my started on what my hair looked like.
"Uhm thanks? You too" She then stopped and a door and knocked loudly. "Why thank you! So whats your name-" the door suddenly opened and a tall looking man peeked out. He had short black hair and wore glasses. His beard with stubbled and out of order.
"Oh Lily, thank you so much for bringing Mia here!" He said loudly. His voice echoing down the hall. "No problem principal Johnson, ill be on my way to class now" Lily said before walking away and disappearing down the hall. I looked back the principal to realise ge had left the door open for me. I walked inside and sat on one of the chairs in front of him. "First i would like to say thank you for choosing to joing Riverwood High" 'i didnt choose'. I shuffled in my seat a bit. "Since you have joined in the middle of the year youll gave to catch up on some of the work. Dont worry I have assigned one of our students to help you"
I nodded and went along with what he aas saying for the rest of the one sided conversation. After he was done he handed me a brand new Apple iPad. "This has all your textbooks and even has a notes app on it for you to take notes during class. I stared at it in disbelief. 'An Apple iPad... Seriously' i thought to myself feeling a bit unsure. "Thank you principal Johnson.." i said quietly. "Dont stress about it. Youll fit right in" he smiled and showed me to the door. "Your first class will be in English 1 class A-1" I then got up and walked out the door before saying goodbye.
Now I was on my own.
"Shit, i forgot to as for a map"
I eventually found my English class and gently knocked on the door. "Come in!" I sighed as i grabbed the handle and opened it. I walked inside and was greeted with a class filled withl students giving me confused faces. "Oh! The new student" I slowly walked over to the teacher. "Well would you like to introduce yourself?" 'do i even have a choice?' i turned to the class and took a shakey breath. "Hi, my name is Mia Lively and I'm from South Africa.." i mubbled that last oart but they seemed to all here it.
"Woah really? So you got lions walking around and shit" I heard a boy say. He sat at the back with a wide smirk on his face. My eyebrows furrowed in frustration as the teacher yelled at him for making such a comment. After the teacher handed me the current event papers. I sat down in an empty seat near the window. The boys in the class seemed to stare at me while the girls just whispered amongst each other. I blocked them out by doodling on my notebook.
When it came to lunch I decided i would sit in thw bathroom until i found out where the library was. No one seemed to come in a lot and if that did, it would only be to smoke or gossip about the recent cheerleading trials. I wasnt interested though. I was purely focused on finishing my sophomore year.
When the day ended I walked back home and jumped onto my bed. "This is gonna be a long year.."
