Prologue

"Club's closing, girls!" a bouncer told two blonde girls, who stumbled across the dance floor, laughing. The girls looked at each other as they wavered out of the club, almost hitting the floor.

"Where are we meeting our ride?" one of the girls asked.

"Chlo," the other girl slurred as she held onto her best friend, trying to not fall over. "Your name is funny. It's like Cho. Here, Cho Cho, a dog!"

"Holly," Chlo said flatly. As she looked at her best friend, she couldn't help but smile. She was trying to fly. She continued to flap her arms as they stumbled into a car park. They looked around the first floor and could not find their ride. They continued to look on every floor until they reached the top of the car park. "Surely, the people who are getting us should be here?" Chlo stopped in her tracks, looking at Holly. "Who is getting us?"

"Corey or Tom," she mumbled. She walked away and began to spin around. "Look Chlo, look at the stars!" Holly shouted, pointing at the stars. Holly reached for Chlo as she almost fell to the ground. "Fly with me, Chlo. Let's explore the world."

"Holly, we don't have time to feel the fresh air. Our curfew was 1:00. It's almost 4:00. I'm going to be grounded, and so are you. We can look at the stars another day." She laughed. "I should really say night."

"Chlo, just breathe in this fresh night air," she giggled. Chlo stared at her. She was so high and drunk; she could make anything sound good. They had been friends since nursery, and stayed close through primary, secondary, and even through college. A lot of people had tried to break the girls apart, but always failed. It had only brought them closer. A friendship that was unbreakable, which was hard to come by in this world, was a thing to treasure.

"There is nothing fresh about this air, Holly!" Chlo laughed. "There's a factory over there." She pointed to her left as a black cloud of smoke came from the chimney. "Nothing fresh about this air. That would be an awesome product idea! Fresh air in a can."

They both looked at each other before bursting into a fit of laughter. "Come here, Chlo. Look at this view," Holly said, grabbing her hand. She pulled her to sit on the edge of the building.

"Holly, this is dangerous. What if we fall?" Chlo asked, slowly starting to sober up as she saw how high up they were. Not standing near the edge, it didn't seem much of a fall. Of course, standing at the edge, it was a huge fall.

"You only live once. Now look at this view with me," Holly said, pouting and batting her eyelashes. "I promise we'll find Corey or Tom after this."

Chlo grinned. She couldn't resist Holly when she pulled the face.

"Up here looking down on them, we are nothing," said Holly. Chlo looked at her strangely. "We are nobody. We're just little blobs."

"Blobs?" Chloe echoed. "I don't think we're blobs. We aren't aliens!"

Holly laughed, shaking her head slightly. "No, silly!" she exclaimed. "The lights being on around the city, could you imagine watching the sun go up or down from here? I bet it would be beautiful. Different. Remind me on my next photography assignment to come up here when sober. I bet this would be good. What do you think, Chlo?" Chlo nodded as they linked hands. "You truly are the best friend I could ask for, you know that right, Chlo? I really mean that. I should really say it sober and not drunk."

Chlo laughed, kissing Holly's cheek. She stood up, looking at the stars. "I love the night time. I should have been born an owl. I prefer night instead of day, especially morning classes. They are painful."
