Season 3 Episode 7: Digestivo

Companion Song: "New Gods" – Grimes

"Oh, you're all I know

But what can I do if I can't see you?

It's too bright

Broken glass that shines like northern lights

So I pray, but the world burns

And still, you need to come first

So I don't know where you stand

Are you a man?

Are you something I can't stand?

Hands reaching out for new gods

You can't give me what I want

But what do I know? Oh

What do I know?

I wanna let go, I

I wanna, wanna, wanna let go

I wear black eyeliner, black attire, yeah

So take me higher and higher and higher

But the world is a sad place, baby

Only brand new gods can save me

Only brand new gods can save me

Oh, oh, oh

Only brand new gods

Hands reaching out for new gods

You can't give me what I want

Hands reaching out for new gods

You can't give me what I want"

Another wonderful canon Hannigram moment is when we see Hannibal carry Will out of Muskrat Farm, having slaughtered many of Mason Verger's men and allowing Alana and Margot to finally have what they want – a vial of sperm and a dead Mason. Chiyoh, ever vigilant, shoots Hannibal's pursuers. This scene happens a few minutes after those final deaths.

If it weren't for the snowy roads, I would be very tempted to take Mason's Lamborghini Gallardo. I've often entertained the thought of flying through the winding highways of southern France in such a machine, with Will beside me in the passenger's seat. It's unfortunate that the car is not suited for the weather or my precious cargo. Instead I select the key for a nondescript utility vehicle from the rack in the over-sized garage.

As gently as I can, I secure Will's limp body into the front seat, supporting him as I recline it as far as it will go before fastening his seat belt. His eyes flutter as I tuck his arms against his chest and shut the door. Behind the wheel, I start the engine and turn on the heat, directing the vents towards Will.

We leave Muskrat Farm behind us, traversing dark roads until we come to the nearby highway. After this, it is the interstate, then the exit for Wolf Trap. When I pull onto the uneven surface of a rural back road, Will's eyes open. He looks first at the ceiling of the car, then over at me. He tries to speak, but the paralytic administered by Dr. Cordell Doemling is still in effect. Will is conscious, aware of every bodily sensation, but unable to move.

On a dark, featureless farm, I hide the vehicle behind an abandoned shed and open Will's door. "We'll have to walk the rest of the way," I explain with a rueful smile. He looks at me and his mouth twitches; perhaps he is trying to return the expression. I hoist him into my arms again. My battered body should be sending me constant stings of its trauma, warnings to cease my strain. I feel nothing but the post-kill euphoria.
