A little girl, seven almost eight years old, with dark brown hair and caramel-colored skin walked down the dark streets of Dorado, Mexico. She wore a pink shirt, a dark blue skirt, pink and blue striped stockings, and a light blue backpack. Attached to her left forearm was a touch screen that lit up purple in the night with a cord that led into the side of her bag. She skipped her way past multiple people waving as they greeted her.
Mexico has been in a state of panic ever since gangs began to erupt all over the country. Everything was fine at first, but as the gangs grew in numbers and members they began to infringe on each other's territory. Two gangs stood out above all others The Los Muertos gang and The Sinaloa Cartel. As years passed, many smaller gangs merged with the two giants to the point where only those two remained. In the beginning, the two had no issues but over time and countless misunderstandings, bad blood accumulated. War broke out between the two and the additive of quirks only increased the violence. Many people were killed, two of the casualties included the little girl's parents.
She stopped walking as she met a graffitied alleyway. At the end of the alleyway was a group of shady people all varying in size, shape, and gender. But one thing they all held in common was the glow-in-the-dark paint decorating their skin creating the bones of a skeleton.
"Hey, Chica! How you been doin' señorita?" a man with green bones painted on his body called out to the little girl.
The little girl turned down the alley "Hola Mateo. Everything's been fine."
A girl in a short red dress strutted over to the little girl and hugged her shoulder into her exposed chest "Olivia! You got what we asked for?"
"Yeah. I got it Isabela." the little girl named Olivia raised her left arm.
The tech decal on her arm lit up as a purple holographic screen appeared for the others around to see "The latest information on The Sinaloa Cartel. Just as you requested."
The teens and adults littering the alley cluttered together to all read the information. The Los Muertos took Olivia in after seeing her capabilities and skills in technology, hacking, and cryptography. Being associated with the Muertos gang gave her access to large funds that she used to upgrade her tech and develop her skills. Olivia was among the thousands of children who were left orphaned during the gang wars in Mexico. With much of Mexico's infrastructure destroyed, she survived by utilizing her natural gifts with hacking and computers. She also proved adept at manipulating individuals to suit her own ends.
Olivia turned back into Mateo when he called her name.
"This is good stuff. Keep up the good work, Olivia." Mateo rubbed her hair.
