I know this question may seem sudden but it will only take a second. Please answer honestly.

Are people equal or not?

A question prevalent in today's Wizarding Society.Very heavily discussed by both the Ministry of Magic and the populace.Opinions are split:the purebloods, those whose parents are both magical claim that the dirty muggles and mudbloods will always be lesser for they  don't come from a magical lineage, while the muggleborn and halfbloods oppose this ideology fervently. The idea of equality and the lack of it been intertwined with the Wizarding World since before the Statute of secrecy. It was at the center of the two Wizarding Wars and was vital to the rise of the last two Dark Lords,Gellert Grindelwald and Voldemort who were muggle subjugating blood purists themselves.

A muggle from a bygone age once said:

"Heaven does not create one man above or below another,"

Set aside the fact that most Wizards do not believe in a higher power, the quote doesn't end there:

"Any existing distinction between the wise and the stupid, between the rich and the poor, comes down to a matter of education.”

What Japanese author Fukuzawa Yukichi means is that we are all born equal, but as we grow  the education that is given to us is what sets us apart. This,in my opinion is biased as the man was a teacher and the founder of Keio University so of course he would hold education to the highest standard.

But teachers and wise men did not rule Britain.Minister Fudge was not a Ravenclaw,no he was a Slytherin.

So did that mean cunning and ambition was what set men apart?

This I believe is also wrong, cunning and ambition are nothing more than tools to obtain that which truly set apart Great men from the common masses.

My answer to this age old question is Power. In all forms whether it be financial, political, social, magical, physical or mental. It doesn't matter your social standing, your education or the amount of galleons you had,a simple petty thug could make a CEO dance to their tune if they held him at gunpoint with which you can make the argument that power resides where men think it resides though that is a discussion for another time.

Thus in conclusion we humans,Wizards and muggles both are measured by the power we could exert over others.Meaning that the irrational concept of equality does not exist,I personally however believe it is good that we chase such an impossible ideal.

Which brings us to my current location:the Hogwarts Express on my was to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry to hopefully get sorted into Gryffindoor, learn  magic, make friends, join the quidditch team, win the house cup, become prefect, become head boy, finish my schooling and then go on to become Minister of Magic, make the Weasley name respected once more, then take over the world and reign as Supreme God-King until my eventual assassination by one my power hungry children who wanted the throne early.

At least if I could find an empty cabin on this blasted train.
