🎵 Caress Your Soul - Sticky Fingers
I spent the last hour or so walking around and wandering through a few shops, grabbing a couple of tops and a much-needed, new pair of runners. I decided that my feet couldn't take any more walking in these shoes and found a little pub down a quiet street and thought it would be a nice break from the day so far. I sat down at a table, ordered a gin and tonic, and messaged my uncle letting him know where to meet me. He was about 20 minutes away so I pulled out my notes from the event this morning to look over, which lasted for a grand total of 2 minutes when I pulled out the paddock pass Cliff had given me earlier that day. I couldn't help but smile, I loved being in that environment and experiencing that on race day was something I've never gotten to do before. It's weird things are moving in the right direction, between the seminar this morning, getting to speak with Rose and the pass, it all seems surreal. I have an odd kind of calmness about all of this, I feel like I should be freaking out but instead, I'm internally planning all the things I need to get done and I'm happy and smiling. The waitress brings my drink over and as I am about to take my first sip, I hear a group of women chatting and laughing behind me, I peeked over my shoulder as to not make it obvious that I was looking I recognized Rose immediately. What are the godamn odds of this. I barely had time to deabte whether or not I should say hello or not, I ultimately chose to put my head down and let them do their thing. I didn't want to interupt their time away from work, more importantly I didn't want to say hello and seem like I had followed them, no thank you, don't need that today.
As they we walking further into the pub, I was looking down at my drink like it was the most intriguing thing I had ever seen. "Luna Windon, fancy seeing you here" Rose smiled, I looked up and tried to act suprised to see them."Rose! Nice to see you again." I sounded a bit too cheery but better then the opposite I suppose. She was with two other women I recognized as Kat Bradford and Mia Scott, "Ladies this is Luna Windon, we met today at the seminar" Rose explained, "She is hoping to climb the ranks of Formula One like we did, and work in PR as well. Luna, this is Mia Scott and Kat Bradorf" She introduced us. "It's great to meet you both, I've seen your work with Daniel and Lando, very impressive given their personalities." I joked, wanting to break the ice quickly. "You have no idea what it takes tp wrangle them" Kat laughed "especially when they are together, I swear it would infuriating if they weren't such great guys." Mia added on, all of us letting out a chuckle. "Do you want to join us? We are a having a drink and discussing a few things for the race next week." Kat asked giving a genuine smile "I would love to" I replied.
We moved to a booth further back in the pub and order a round of drinks. They discussed the seminar and upcoming press the team would be doing this week, I felt a little out of my depth, but so grateful I got to listen in to all the logistics that are key during race week. We ended up on our third round, laughing about the amazing stories of Daniel and Lando's antics in the paddock, talking about what I want for myself in my career and them giving such great advice.
The time flew by, and hour and a half to be specific ,I didn't realize the time until my phone rang and Cliff's name popped up. "I'm sorry, please excuse me." I jumped up and answered the phone "Cliff! Hey! I am so sorry I lost track of time, where are you?" I said with a guilty tone. "You aren't the only one, I'm in a pub with some of the guys" He laughed, noise from his group coming through the phone. "Well I'm glad I didn't ditch you, what's the plan for today? Or I guess tonight" I looked down at my watch, seeing it was already 5:45. "Well the guys are ordering dinner now, and from the sounds of it it looks like a pub crawl is how tonight will end up. I was calling to see if come with or if you would rather we head back home?" Cliff explained, I could tell he was having a blast and wanted to go with his friends and I didn't want to get in the way of that, not after everything he has done for me. "No you go, I'll probably take the train home but you stay I'll be fine." I said, trying to convince him that I would actually be fine, I think I can manage the train on my own, I'm 23 not 12. "Lu, you are the best niece" he said "your only niece" I laughed in reply. "text me when you get home safe." "I will, drink responsibly!" I joked and hung up.
I walked back to the table, Rose, Kat and Mia were in a debate about the topic of a press video they planned for this week. As I sat they decided on team charades, Rose turned to turned to me "everything good?" she asked "oh yeah, my uncle just checking in." I told her. "what are you going to be doing this week? Planning on watching the race?" Mia asked. "Funny enough, my uncle got us paddock passes for the weekend, so I'll be nosing my way around." I beamed, excitement building in me. "This might be impulsive, definitely last minute and not my call the make..." She said looking over at Rose "but you should come with us when we fly out to Barcelona tomorrow!" I looked at her like she was speaking a different language. There was no way that she actually said that, no I must be in some sort of fever dream. Right? "Thats a great idea!" Mia added. I feel like I'm paralyzed, I want to say 10 different things, hell yes being the first 9. "What do you think Rose?" Kat asked wiggling her eyebrows at Rose. She turned to me after a brief pause "If you can be ready at the airport by 7 tomorrow morning, we can sort out some paper work, NDA's safety that sort of stuff on the flight, and make it a week for you to shadow, get a feel for it." She smiled. All I can seem to do is stare at Rose with wide eyes and a smile, I know I look insane right now. "I think we broke her" Mia laughed.
"Yes, YES!" I almost said laughing in disbelief. "Good then we'll see you at 7am sharp" Rose smiled.
