Glass brought out a box of books into the house from the car. They seemed to weigh a million pounds after he had carried in so many other things. This was the last one and the sun was setting. The day had gone by fast. Moving to a new town was something new to him though being a person who had lived in the same town his entire life.
Glass looked around his new home, it wasn't to big, but it felt dreadfully empty. He set his box down and went to go to see his new room. He peeked in and looked around. It was simple, with a few boxes in a corner, a desk that was painfully empty, and a bed that did not have any sheets. He took a deep breath and entered. He knew he would have a long day tomorrow, for it was his first day at a new school and he felt exhausted already.
He collapsed himself onto the barren bed and looked at the popcorn textured ceiling above him. He had so many thoughts racing through his mind he didn't know what to think. School was the biggest concern that ate at him. Since he would graduate at this school he definitely didn't want to make a bad first impression. He sat back up and wondered where his mom and dad were but really he was just trying to do something to distract himself from over thinking school. He knew what they were doing, unpacking, what else could they do with nothing set up yet? He didn't care and left his room to search for them.
Glass moved himself around the house, half looking for his parents, half exploring. He peeked inside a doorway, "Just the bathroom." He mumbled, but it was good to know where that was. Walking some more he peeked into another door "Just the guest bedroom." He sighed. Finally he found a room where his mom was pulling clothes out and putting them into piles.
He half smiled at her . She didn't even notice him so he decided it was a good idea to get a laugh by scaring her. He tip toed closer to her as she organized them and folded them. He ran his fingers down her back making her jump a little. She sighed a breath of relief when she realized it was only Glass. Meanwhile, Glass was chuckling to himself a little. "Glass!" she said laughing a little herself. "Why do you always have to scare me, even if you know I'm doing something?" she asked. This only made him laugh more. "You're so cheesy." she smiled. Glass' laughter died down and he sat beside her and helped her fold the clothes since there was no internet and really nothing better to do.
"What are we doing for dinner?" Glass asked folding the clothes and making sure he puts them in the correct place. "I was thinking chinese." His mom responded. Glass nodded slowly running a hand through his hair, "Mom did you move a lot when you where a kid." Glass asked mustering the courage. "Actually yes." His mom nodded. "How do you make a good impression?" Glass finally asked. "Well.. You have to be yourself, and be kind. Which I know you'll be brilliant at." His mom replied smiling at him.
He nodded. In his mind he thought about how in any movie he'd ever seen the popular guy was mean not kind. He didn't want to say that to her so he let her continue. "What else?" he asked. "There isn't really much else to it, Glass. It really just depends how the people are I guess." she said. "But I know they'll all love you." she added. "She really has no idea." He thought. He didn't say anything and helped her finish the pile of clothes off. After, he stood up and decided to look for his dad to see what he had to say about it.
Glass wandered around the house and he finally found his dad in their basement, he was moving a couch around. "Hel...p!" His father huffed. Glass ran and lifted the other side, helping his father move it to a wall. "Thank you." His father said rubbing his hands together. "You are welcome." Glass nodded to him, "Do you mind if I ask you something?" "Of course." His father smiled. "How do you make a good impression at a new school?"
His father paused to think about it for a second. "You already ask your mother?" he asked. Glass nodded. "Yeah." he said waiting for his father to continue."Okay, so you already heard the mom explanation and you came to me looking for a real, slightly more offensive reason, correct?" he asked. Glass nodded. It was surprising how much he and his dad were alike, they could practically read each other's mind. His dad blew a raspberry. "Well," his dad paused and looked up the stairs making sure his wife wasn't coming. "Don't be yourself, it doesn't work on guys....It never does, trust me it doesn't work on anyone not just you." Glass smirked at hearing something besides 'just be yourself' like everyone always says. "Okay." He said trying to make it look like he was offended.
His dad laughed and clapped his hand on his sons back "Just don't get yourself into too much trouble." He said. "Okay, thanks dad." Glass said running up the stairs. He slowly decided to take his father's advice and not be himself. He smiled slightly "It's a new start." He stated.
