Part 5 - Dinner

Days had passed along without anything really special happening to Claudya. Even her bullies seemed they had relaxed in trying to pick up on her. In particular, she did not see Nick, her new colleague. It was crazy, she knew it was better for her to keep her distance from him, but yet, somewhere really deep inside, she missed him.

Like all Fridays for some while now, her mother would ask her to go dine at the only restaurant in the small town. Her mother, a nurse working for a small hospital, was called even for the smallest incidents because she was the most experienced one and the only doctor was mostly missing because he had a weakness for Jack Daniel.

Claudya chose an elegant red jumpsuit just because it was very easy to dress. For shoes, she had taken on some black platforms she had to use for occasions like this. Her hair was already in a wavy ponytail and her red hair with the green eyes and the red of the jumpsuit were making a nice combination. She wasn't ever feeling comfortable dressing as nicely as now or even trying a different approach to her hair, other than hair in a loop. She wasn't going to lie, deep down in her soul she was hoping that "someone" would see her.

She made herself light make-up, some mascara, and a bit of red lipstick and smiled at her reflection in the mirror. She looked really good. No more than the frightened girl that was hiding from the bullies that she was hiding a few days ago. She went out and in just one minute her mom was in front of the house to pick her up.

Her mom, Beatrice, was 45 years old but she was still pretty at her age. Not so tall, Claudya inherited her in that aspect, she was red-headed with blue eyes. And those eyes were smiling now looking at her daughter.

"Claudya? Is that you?" she was a bit in shock. She had never seen her daughter dressed this way.

Claudya blushed hard,

"Mom is not like you don't know this outfit. After all, you bought it"

"I did, my dear, with the hope you will wear it someday. God listened to my prey," she said silently.

Claudya burst into a laugh,

"C'mon mom!" she rolled her eyes. "You are exaggerating! We should go. I am quite hungry."

Her mother stopped the comments and started driving with a smile all over her face.

They continued along the road in a joyful mood, listening to music in the car and making jokes. The restaurant was 20 minutes' distance from their home in the car, so time flew by the time they arrived. Entering the restaurant, the waiter took them to their table, the same they were using each time and that was saved for them every Friday evening. That was the beauty of living in a small town, everyone would know your habits.

Claudya turned a few heads when she entered. Like people would recognize her but were not sure. Her only look was to see if he was there. A fast look over the restaurant and saw he wasn't. But there was Tom, the bully, and, of course, Pamela. She was dining with her family.

Claudy felt a bit discouraged, but she had to stay with her mother as it was the understanding they had made. She felt like Pamela, full of hate, surely because of the episode they had back at school with Nick and Tom... well, he was just enjoying being an asshole, what he was doing with his friends, at the bar.

Claudya was looking at them under the lashes and she couldn't help but notice that Tom was looking at her most indecently, making her skin crawl, not in a pleasant way.

She decided to leave all the exhausting watches of all the others in the restaurant and enjoy the meal with her mother. She was just about to do that when, at some point, all the usual noise stopped into absolute silence. Claudya and her mother also stopped talking, raising their heads at the door to see what that was all about. Claudya held her breath when she saw what everybody was looking at, or better yet, to whom.

Nick entered the restaurant and he was looking dashing. A classy suit with a black shirt, his hair wet looking like he had just gone out of the shower, and his electric blue eyes sent shivers on Claudya's back along with all the butterflies that came to life in Claudya's stomach.

He made a turn of the head, probably to check who it was in the restaurant, and his eyes stopped at Claudya. They were having a fire inside them, as she could tell. The electricity she was feeling around him came back now, unexpectedly 'not helping', she thought.

Behind him were a man and a woman, not less magnificent, but Claudya's eyes were trapped in his eyes and she wasn't able to tell exactly what they were wearing. Not even pointing a gun at her. She had seen from the corner of her eye that Pamela came from the table where she was sitting with her parents straight at him. She saw Pamela putting her hands around his arm and saying something in a lower voice, but he dismissed her in no time with a 'later' read on his lips. Seemed like Claudya was starting to have a feeling that a right mind would call jealousy. But not her. She almost shook her head in negation. 'It would be absurd, she thought.

For Claudya, all the scene was in slow motion. She heard her mother saying, who are they? The conversation in whispers started, and he was heading towards their table.

On the arrival, he made a small bow and took Claudya's mother, Beatrice, her hand to kiss, quickly with a little smile with a 'Madam,' and when he went for the same rotation with Claudya, she could see the fire in his eyes closed. She felt like the jumpsuit on her would burst into a fire. He had the same quick kiss for her, but the feeling was so much different. There was a spark between them, but it was not the place or the time to look into it. Anyways, besides the fire, the admiration for his appearance made Claudya feel like she was about to fly. 'Stupid silly girl, you are surely imagining things' she could not help herself to think, but her heart was not connected to her mind at that moment.

After a small difference of opinion, Nick ended up accompanying his uncle and aunt to dinner with the Mayor. His major refusal was because that girl, Pamela, was there, being the Mayor's daughter. It wasn't like she wasn't hot, but he had his eyes on a little fox. Pamela wasn't his type, but it seemed she wouldn't take a no as an answer. But he owned that much to his uncle and aunt and promised to accompany him and be on his best behavior.

Getting to the restaurant and seeing how many people there were, he felt like he would like to retract everything but he was in the game, so he would need to go on. The desire to back up was before he saw her. She looked amazing! Nick's jar almost dropped but he tried to restrain himself.

He remained behind his uncle and aunt and went to their table. She was with a woman, maybe an aunt or mom, because there was a resemblance between them. He leaned at the woman accompanying Claudya, not because he wanted, and turned to Claudya. He felt like an eternity passed until that moment. He took her hand and pointed to his lips. And there it was! That spark of electric air between them. He looked her right in her eyes and he could recognize she was feeling the same.

After the small introduction, where he found out the woman was her mother, he returned to the Mayor's table. His coming wasn't even noticed by the occupants of the table except one, of course. Pamela was throwing flames through her eyes, Nick occupied his seat at the table next to her, of course, but he ignored her like she was another chair.

On the other hand, all his attention was on the table where Claudya was. The moment she got up to leave, he knew he wouldn't handle a minute sitting at the table.

He got up to excuse himself and got a not-so-friendly look from his uncle,

"Where are you going?"

With not so many details, Nick answered,

"I have something to do" and leaned his head towards the others in a sign of goodbye and out he went. He could feel Pamela's look throwing daggers into his back. But he could not care less.
