Story Prompt #1

My heart slammed in my chest, as I ran faster than I thought I ever could.

I sprinted home, almost tripping over cracks in the sidewalk.

And then I made it.

I collapsed on my knees, barely breathing, but not because of how fast I was running, but because of what I saw.

My home, the place where I had lived my whole life, was up in flames.

Crackling.

Snapping.

There was a crowd of people standing in front of it, watching anxiously.

I wanted to scream at them to do something, anything.

But I didn't have the breath to yell.

The whole sky was filled with flashes of red, orange, and yellow.

It was like a firework show.

It was beautiful. In a terrible, heart stopping way.

The air was hot, like someone had left an oven open for too long. It was filled with dark gray smoke, everywhere.

It filled my lungs, threatening to never leave.

My breath wheezed as I weakly tried to force my way to the front.

Someone grabbed my arm, but I wrenched it out of their grip, finally making it.

It was even more sweltering there, like a thousand ovens left open.

It felt like I was standing on the sun.

I watched as my little sister screamed for our mother.

She didn't come.

I curled myself into a ball, hugging my knees as tight as I could.

Silent tears came pouring down my cheeks, hot and fast.

I waited for the nightmare to end.

But it didn't.

I could still hear the crackling of the flames.

My sister's screams.

The fire siren.

People yelling.

Then I blacked out.

~~~
So? What did you think?
Should I make a story?
If so, should that all be a dream? Or real?
Let me know!
😊
