The rune of death

The Rune Of Death : Lilith

After walking a while following the runes of light that Raynoh place to guide them Noler and Angus saw their partners. Skull has given birth a few minutes ago and the cave around him was full of blood. Raynoh was performing a spell to help Skull heal. As they arrived Angus quickly drew a rune in the air to clean up the blood from the cave floor. Skull started breastfeeding the baby. It stopped crying and it started sucking the milk out of Skull's nipple. Angus blushed as soon as he saw that spectacle. Noler walked up to Skull and asked him quietly

My love, are you OK? How are you feeling?

I am alright, all this pain wasn't for nothing... Look at her... She is perfect, Skull said and his eyes started to water

OK, everybody, gather round. It is time, Raynoh said. It was time to reveal the child's rune. Every person from the moment of their birth has a rune. A rune designated to them. A rune that is a prophecy. A character trait. A rune that guides the person's life. Each person can activate their rune by certain practices conscious and not. The runes can be activated multiple times if it is needed and can be used for different things. They can also be deactivated but once you decide to deactivate it you can never use it again. Mostly the runes aren't something specific. They are more likely to describe the energy of an individual, an emotion that guides their life, a state of mind or even their hierarchy in the chain of command. Some great leaders had this type of rune. But if they didn't live forever, they couldn't know. The ways of magic were lost in time. Now, only people who lived forever remembered them. That's why they were hunt down. Magic.
Raynoh touched the baby's forehead and whispered something at an ancient long forgotten language. A rune appeared in the baby's forehead. A black rune. They all knew what it meant. Black rune means death. The child, their child had gotten the rune of death. The one who had the Rune of death was destined to bring the end. And that person was their child.

We don't yet know what the end means... Angus reminded Skull trying to reassure him. Mostly he was trying to reassure himself. Their child was the end but no one knew the end of what.

We don't know what the future hold for us neither for our daughter. Let's stay positive. Noler said with a smile trying to hide his worries.

The runes are not easy to explain. We just use them but each Rune has a different meaning for each person. They are a part of an ancient world trying to stay alive. Such as the rune of light can also  mean truth and it can be used to unveil the truth, so does the Rune Of Death can mean very different things. Raynoh explained trying to stay positive as he was the most experienced with the use of ancient magic.

He was the most experienced because he was the oldest of the four of them. He was born before countries and borders had meaning. He was a person who lived since prehistoric times. He remembered a time before the wheel and a time before fire started being used by people. He remembered those things because he was already old when they changed humanity. He was one of the first people who walked on earth and he will probably be amongst the last too.

He knew the ways of magic before runes and words started to get written to describe that power. That is why when he talked everyone went silent. Because he always knew what to say, because he already have lived everything that has ever happened. And he had survived. He had survived through the worst part of humanity. People were hunting him and killing him again and again for thousands of years but he was still here, alive and stronger than ever.

Skull's eyes stated tearing up as he look at his daughter. His own flesh and blood.

My loves, don't try to comfort me. These tears show my happiness. My love for our child. What if she has the Rune Of Death. I love her with all my heart and I will never let anything or anyone hurt her

The rest murmured in agreement. Raynoh started saying something that seemed like a prayer and a mild reassuring white light covered the cave. The rest of them, each at his own language ( some forgotten, some not) stared to add to the prayer, the spell. The light became more bright as all four of them were praying, casting the spell. As they stopped the light showered them and their daughter. The baby started laughing as she was trying to catch with her little hands the light. All four of her fathers smiled at this sight. They couldn't grasp how this child could bring the end, how this child could carry the Rune Of Death.

Finally Noler asked Skull

What do you think her name should be?

Lilith,my daughter, our daughter is Lilith , Skull answered smiling and all of them smiled. They knew that this name is perfect for her. Perfect for their daughter. Perfect for the person who is supposed to bring the end.
