It has been four months. Four months since the world as I knew it changed. My freedoms changed, my attitude changed, and people changed.

It's been hard without my parents. With Max sick and all it can be a little much at times. But I can't focus on that. No, not if I want to survive.

I still remember the day we had to evacuate. The sirens roared in my ear, you could almost fell the urgency in the air. My patents tried to get is to the local shelters. But it was too late. The bombing had already started.

I was almost killed over a piece of bread today. Shows crazy the world is now. One loaf of bread could have been the deciding factor if I lived or died. The thought almost makes me laugh.

I was walking home with a loaf of bread I had swiped from a couple of soldiers today. As I was walking home I heard footsteps behind me. I turned around and saw nothing. Maybe it was just the wind. I heard it again. This time when I turned around to see a girl about my age with dark brown hair and pale skin. She looked to be barely above five foot. I turned back around thinking there would be no threat.

Suddenly I fell to the ground. Something, rather someone had jumped on me and was now desperately trying to claw the bread from me.  I tried to get her of of me, but she was too strong. I was about to elbow her in the face when she pulled out a knife. I then put my hands flat on the ground releasing the bread completely. She them ran off disappeared down an alleyway. Guess there won't be any diner tonight.

I ran home after the incident to an abandoned apartment building where me and Max stayed. It wasn't much but it would have to do.

"Did you get anything to eat?" Asks my seven year old brother Max as I walked through the door. "No not today. But I promise I will tomorrow." The thought of the girl stealing our meal made me angry. "Thats what you said yesterday!" Max exclaimed. " I know but this time I double promise." I said with a wink. That seemed to cheer him up a bit.

     "Trevor stopped by today."

"He did? I thought I told you not to answer the door for anyone."

     "But it was Trevor!"

" I don't care. Next time someone is at the door you stay quiet until they leave." I explained to him.
