Be the thing that ends me. Be that thing that is so special that I am willing to sacrifice everything for it, willing to move mountains and push against the wind. Something that you'd take not one, but all the bullets for, that you'd break walls and kick down trees. A force against nature, the hidden gem in a clump of mud, the water beneath my feet.

She had — been the thing that he loved the most. Up until the last day that she was his daughter, he had always been the thing that loved her the most. He'd take a bullet for her, dangle off a bridge for her, push the mountains for her, because that was what you did for a child.
