“Black Rock Shooter, where did you go?” I shouted to the sky. What I was doing was useless, I knew, but I couldn’t help myself. “Can’t you hear me?” I also shouted, my voice straining from the countless screams of which I couldn’t stop from letting out.

The anonymous person that I called ‘Black Rock Shooter’ was a heroine who did everything to help me; a person who I couldn’t depart with. Not now, when we just had met. I did not know how much longer I could scream like this, running away from the truth that she was gone forever. It was very hard to stop, the world I once dreamt was now lost and all was safe. “It was just a dream,” I keep telling myself.

My throat hurt too much to yell now, so once again I began walking on the dark crumbling path that has never seen light. All the flowers were wilted, a depressing sight, but it was the only way back. Back to the past, where everything was right and what it should be. While walking, I thought I saw a shimmer of hope that shouldn’t have existed. “Why?” I asked quietly, maybe to myself, or maybe to someone else; I didn’t really know at that point.

Thinking back to the days I shared with Black Rock Shooter, the wistful memories flooded my senses. Of my simple life I used to have, those made it a delight. Though now, I couldn’t move my feet anymore. Hope that I thought was gone took flight once more, remembering our story we had created. Darkness that surrounded me on this path seemed nonexistent now, replaced by the flashback that played in my mind like a movie.

A gentle breeze had rolled in while I was lying in the grass, gazing up at the clear, starry night. Stars that looked like bright lights sprinkled and ran across the sky. Since birth, I had been gifted with a horrifying ability to make my imagination come true. Consequences that followed were far from tolerable. To make my imagination completely harmless, I was required to get rid of it. Others had seen me as dull and boring afterwards, but on that particular night it wasn’t.

Something had made me upset, and my short temper couldn’t contain itself anymore. Before I knew it, the world before me became dead and grey, scarce of anything living. This triggered the fear in me, making everything more dramatic and morbid. Unable to return the world back to its lively state, I was left all alone to stare at the pitch black sky.

“Call my name,” was whispered in my ear, and I turned around to look for who it came from, only to see no one. Chills ran down my spine, fearful of what was going on. Somehow, a name came to my mind and I immediately spoke it, with no control of my mouth.

“Black Rock Shooter!” I whispered in a frightened, trembling voice. Farther into the distance rose a dark mass, which I was unable to look at. Whatever it was, it seemed to bring dawn with it, the night being over now.

“Don’t look down now.” The same voice said in front of me. Looking up, I was presented with a tall woman with long jet-black hair in two ponytails riding a motorcycle. Her smile was very bright, given that she and the world that surrounded me seemed to be colorless.

Coming to a halt, I realized that that same smile brought me to believe with all my heart. Now that I remembered that scene, my plans to live in the future like the boring person I had been disappeared. “That’s right,” I murmured and smiled, remembering yet another part in our adventure.

Joining her, I took heed to her words explaining that the road would be dangerous. Through all sorts of traveling, I never understood what she meant, for I was perfectly safe. Danger had actually came to my mind; guilt, realization, and confusion settling itself on top of me. Although the realization of it didn’t come to terms with me immediately, it did during our last moment together . Black Rock Shooter had finished her job of repairing the world of the damage I had caused. Also, not to forget, the damage I had caused to my heart.

“I've known from the start that you were here with me.” She stated and she stepped away from me, hopping onto her motorcycle. Blue flames that somehow engulfed her right eye, flames made by pure power and hope, shone brighter than ever before as she shouted her final words to me, “Overtake the world!”

“Black Rock Shooter!” I screamed as I saw her form start to become transparent. Taking in her powerful words to me was painful, and I thought my heart would break once more because of it. Running was not an option anymore, now that a new responsibility was given to me. “You aren’t alone!” was a phrase that suddenly pushed into my mind, which I knew was done Black Rock Shooter. Crying aloud, I reached out to her, even though my feet felt like lead stuck in concrete. Every trace of her was gone and I was left alone, on this very dark and crumbling road. Walking, thinking, remembering; it all came back to where I stood in the present.

“Black Rock Shooter, just you wait.” I challenged to the empty air with a smile on my face, a smile that found its way to the surface after years of discipline and fear. “This is where my story will begin!”

Supernatural wind took me by surprise, making me have to take a few steps to regain my balance. Off into the distance, just like before, I witnessed a dark form riding a motorcycle bringing the light of dawn. Roses and other flowers that I thought were wilted were actually growing with strength, and the crumbling path set out before me was perfectly built, my own tired feet being the problem.

“Should you ever start to forget,” she told me sternly, “Call my name.” As she began to fade once more, I nodded to show that I understood her meaning. Call with hope that she may show, or else she would never be able to return. Courage within me burst, lighting that signature flame in her eye. Without the hope from others, her power was nothing and she could be who she was, a heroine against evil.
