I don't wanna end this season on a bad episode-
--
The air held a certain vibrancy as the sun's rays beamed on my skin, warming up my insides as I strolled down the sidewalk next to Shota. His toned arm was snaked around my waist, resting on my jeweled left hand, which in turn rested on my stomach. We chatted about nothing, in pure bliss, enjoying the scenery of the city. The usual bustling crowd had now dwindled to a few stragglers enjoying the quiet morning before it eased into the noon lunch rush. Shota and I took the day off, and decided to spend it together, as we haven't had a chance to take off simultaneously in a few years. His job as a teacher took up most of his day when I would be resting, and he would come home to rest at night while I take on my shift. We would see each other in passing, squeezing in as much love and intimacy as we could in those few moments.
As we passed a familiar building with an almost bitter aroma, Shota gripped my waist, stopping me in my tracks. I let out a slight sound of surprise, Shota apologizing for startling me.
"M' sorry, can I grab a quick coffee?" He unnecessarily asks, and I nudge him with my hip.
"Just can't start the day without it, huh?" I joke, and glint of mischievousness flashes in his coal-like eyes.
"If I recall, I started with you." He mutters into the crook of my neck, kissing it ever so slightly. My skin grows warm as I shove him off, giggling, and he laughs as well.
"Sho," I start moving towards the building, "Quit it, you're always-" I stop at the door.
This restaurant, it was that restaurant.
The one where Keigo and I...
"Are you going to open the door or stare at it?" Shota jokes, appearing next to me. I shake my head, opening the door, the bell above ringing in my ear obnoxiously. Shota quietly follows behind me, sensing the change in my mood.
The retro style diner hadn't changed much, the white walls trimmed with electric blue, decorated with neon lights that were off during the day for a more natural look. I can't remember the last time I stepped foot in here. It wasn't on purpose, almost as if my body subconsciously made me avoid the place altogether.
Shota tugs my arm, looking down at me slightly. "I don't have to get coffee if you want to leave...are you getting tired? Do you want to go home?" He asks gently, his worry on full display. I smile slightly, looking around the diner. "No, it's fine. I just haven't...been here in a while. Just taking it all in."
The worry doesn't leave his eyes, but he doesn't pry, which is something I appreciate the most about Shota. He knows that I will talk about it once I'm ready. "Alright, well..." He sighs, squinting at the menu. "Is there anything you're craving?"
I laugh a bit, exhaling through my nose.
"Strawberry waffles."
Shota nods, walking up to the line, as I sit in a booth closest to the exit. Out of habit, I began glancing to the back of the restaurant, towards the secluded booth Keigo and I often occupied in secrecy. Drumming my fingers on the table rhythmically, I contemplate going back there, just for old times sake. I couldn't help but wonder if the table was still back there, and if by coincidence, he was sitting there as well. Waiting.
I clamp my hands on the table, letting out a breathy laugh.
"Come on, (Y/N). Seriously?" I muttered to myself, at the ridiculous thought.
Part of me held a small amount of hope.
Despite everything I had gone through, I held no hard feelings towards Keigo. Both of us were young and dumb, looking for love in all the wrong places, and in all the wrong ways. Either way, it's been years, and I've learned to grow up and let go. It just wasn't worth it, and mulling over the past would have kept my future uncertain. But in my attempts to be cordial, Keigo avoided me at every turn.
