"So does Atlas believe you?"
"I don't know if he believes me, but I know he won't say anything if he doesn't. If anything he'll just try and help me by saying it's night terrors or something"
I've been having nightmares lately. Not any kind though I'm actually losing sleep over it. I swear I'm starting to see things during the day too. Shadows are moving and eyes are following me. I'm laying here right now telling my best friend Sam about it. She believes me, she always does. My boyfriend Atlas, however, maybe not so much. It's not like he's mean about it, he just doesn't believe in supernatural things.
We're both lying on my bed right now talking about all of this. Sam has been my best friend since elementary school. Since my mom knows her well she's allowed to be up in my room. It was late afternoon by now, but she didn't want to go home yet.
"Sounds like he's being a bitch not believing you Oliver. He's your boyfriend, he should be backing you up on everything" she says.
"I know, but in his defense, he just doesn't believe all that much in supernatural things. I'm not even sure I believe in it all too much. I mean come on, what sounds more believable? Me having really bad nightmares and losing sleep over it so I start hallucinating or me being haunted?"
"I mean yeah when you put it like that, but you know Halloween is coming" she smiles.
"What's that got to do with it?" I asked, confused.
"You know, the spirits are able to have more and more freedom to walk in the mortal realm as we get closer to October thirty first"
"Ugh, you really believe that?" I rolled my eyes.
"Duh! You know my great-grandmother was a witch. I'm just trying to carry on some of her teachings"
"Uh-huh, sure. Or you just like the idea of a spooky Halloween" I shook my head. This girl, I swear.
"Well, that too"
Sam truly believes her great-grandmother was a witch. I'm not saying she wasn't, but I don't think she was the type of witch that she has in mind. She still thinks witches back then wore pointy hats and cast actual spells with a wand. From what I can tell her poor girlfriend is a practicing pagan witch and tries to tell her that they don't actually look like that, but I think she grew tired of correcting her. If anything I think she tries to make Sam happy by going along with it. I think their Halloween costume this year is witches.
"By the way, how's Lila? I haven't got to see her in a while" I ask. Lila was her girlfriend.
"Ah, she's fine. I'm actually supposed to be having her over later" she states. Her eyes went wide all of a sudden. "Oh shit! I've got to go. It's almost5, I told her to come at 5:30!" Sam jumped up off my bed and immediately started booking it down the hall. I got up and followed her down the stairs. She was running past my mom in the kitchen when I got down.
"Oh, Sam did you not want to stay for dinner?" She called out to her.
"No ma'am! I've really got to get home, but thank you!" She yelled back. "Bye Oliver, I'll see you later!" She ran out the door, but I saw she left her jacket on the couch. It's been rainy all day and it's cold outside.
"Sam, you forgot your jacket!" I yelled to her from the front door. She ran back to me to grab the jacket and hugged me before leaving again. I shut the door behind me and walked back into the kitchen. I love her, but she wears me out sometimes. I walked into the kitchen with my mom who was cooking. I always loved my mom's cooking. She's not a master chef, but she's always trying new things.
"That girl is going to catch a cold. It's the middle of October and it's been rainy and windy all week practically. Which by the way the news says it's just going to continue. So prepare for it to be dreary still" she spoke, stirring a pot.
