"He's dead." Fox's voice range throughout the Cowmune. People stopped in their place, artists stopped drawing, gardeners stopped gardening. Everyone looked towards the speakers closest to them. "Cade Taylor... is confirmed dead. Chicady has come back from their search. After several months missing, Cade Taylor was found. We are planning a funeral for them soon. I'm so sorry to tell you all this way. I will share more information as it's discovered."
Fox set the phone down, severing the connection to the Commune's speakers. He sighed, and leaned back in her chair. "What do we Chicady? How do we deal with this? Our founder. Found dead. What do we do?"
"Our best." Chicady advised, "We will do our best. The Cowmune is strong. We are a good and loving community. Even with our founders death. We will make sure we can stand United. I'll contact the Church of Bibble and ask if they'd like to help with the funeral plans-"
"No." Fox interrupted, "No, I will. As second- well, now first in command, it's my duty to deal with this. You go and get the other Helpers. Goosequack is arranging the flowers, and I believe Mel is handling the music. Make sure we all know what to do. I'll keep in contact if we need anything else."
Chicady nodded in response then left the office.
Cade's old office.
When Cade went missing several months ago, along with the original second in command, Amy, Fox took over. In fact, he almost single handedly keep the Cowmune functioning. He was fantastic.
Even now. In such a stressful time, Fox was doing her best. He would keep this community alive if it killed her. When Fox entered the Church of Bibble, she saw more people inside than normal. The resent news must have called people to the sacred halls.
A statue of Bibble gazed down at the room from above. His son Timmy bellow him, both reaching down towards to audience. It helped Fox feel calm. She bowed her head towards the statues, then headed to the front of the isle, where the Priest was standing.
Myke, Cade's old roommate and current Priest of the Church of Bibble. Myke stood at the alter of the church, praying to his lord and savior, pouring ice into a cup of water, and then slowly placing a piece of ice into each of his pockets. Fox barely heard him mutter the words, "Waiter, more ice please." Before he stood up and turned around.
"Ah. Fox. Welcome, we are so sorry to hear the news this morning. How do you feel?" Mykes eyes were a little red and puffy, like as if he'd been crying.
Fox gave them a smile, answered his question, and then got to work with preparing for the funeral.
The two worked for several hours. They stopped a few times for bathroom breaks and to talk about other things- to keep the mood light, but they mainly focused on the topic of Cade. His funeral was planned for January 25th. And Fox had received a message from Chicady stating that all other preparations were getting started on.
As the sun set on the Cowmune, Fox wished Myke goodbye, gave one last bow to Bibble and Timmy, then headed back home. The walk back home was slow, as Fox felt like today was a good day to appreciate the commune Cade and Amy had worked so hard on to create.
The Cowmune sat in a beautiful valley surrounded by mountains. It had a lovely field of cows, a gorgeous 3 acres of crops and flowers. The entire community completely self sufficient. Every building had solar panels, and there was a common living area, food house, and a nice set of apartments for each person. There were many shops and businesses that operated on trades and written deals- but all real money in the Cowmune was earned on the crops and meats grown on the common land. People also made and sell their own products in flea markets in local towns and online.
Cades dream of having a commune had come true. And it was so beautiful. Fox smiled at the view of the sun touching the mountains- a reddish pink glow covering the Cowmune. A cool breeze was blowing through and it began to snow. Several people were walking around, hanging out or attending commune duties. Fox knew that with the loss of Cade, life would be hard. But she also knew that with the loss of Cade, the Cowmune could gain more opportunities for growth. For every change- even the bad ones- opened up a new door of possibilities.
Fox took one last look around the beautiful world around her, and then went home.
