by the time classes ended, the sun had set and the moon started to appear. by the time the birds, squirrels, and little kids head to bed, the college students had only woken up.
university is a place to study! the elders boast. what they had not expected was that at the same time it is a massive free playground for oversized children. studying only happens inside, once you leave the glass doors, only fun lies ahead.
the campus grounds were starting to liven up; basketball courts crowded, food stalls by the gate packed, and the cafes and restaurants nearby starting to get busy. students here and there were just starting to have fun, all except the two seniors who had only left their classrooms.
mondays are hell days for a reason. above monday being monday, they had classes till noon, a great start to the week. after 80% of their souls sucked dry by 4 consecutive classes, one has a club meeting while the other has a part time job. no fun for these two, i suppose.
the two had barely any energy left, walking slowly without any words exchanged. it was wise since they need to conserve the last 20% they have left to survive the remaining hours of the day before going to bed.
choi yeonjun could only stare at the juniors in jealousy. too much was going on, but damn does he envy that. he wants to date too like that one, he wants to go have dinner with friends too like the other, he also wants to just hang out freely with the boys like those guys. alas, here he is walking to another gloomy occasion with his introverted friend who by now had probably lost most of his energy thus making him a person with gloomy aura.
he chose to major in management since it was a safe bet for future careers. in addition, he thinks he adapts well with the amount of socializing given the massive amount of students majoring the same. but he has no idea why his dear friend here chose this path, a path where they are always assigned in group tasks, always pushed to speak in public, and to socialize 24/7.
choi soobin also had no idea how he ended up here. he couldn't care less about the juniors walking pass, or the couples smooching here and there, his eyes shined like a dead fish's and he still has a shift to work today. class was hell, but he's gotten used to it. this much is fine, he kept mumbling to himself.
"it's nice to be young," yeonjun mutters as a group of freshmen walk by, greeting the two seniors enthusiastically before scurrying off. soobin doesn't respond and only hums. yeonjun (not seldom nor often, it's continuous, a recurring thing) acts like an 80 year old despite in reality being a young dude in his early 20s, in a way it's a charm of his.
soobin stopped in his tracks when he no longer felt his friend's presence by him, looking back to see the person in question staring at the basketball court. the atmosphere was serene and chilly if not for the roars of cheers from the courts. albeit being a few meters away, their youthful shouts were audibly clear from where they stood.
people, they were sure younger than them, were playing. all riled up and passionate as if their lives depended on it. a small crowd had even formed to watch the game. "i wanna play," yeonjun mutters under his breath.
"then play."
"do you think i have enough energy for that?"
"you probably do," soobin nods, actually locating a possibility given the guy's supposedly everlasting energy.
yeonjun scowled at his response. he was about to catch up to him when an unexpected hum from soobin made him look back to the court. the game was paused. a person who was clearly one of the players' sweetheart came to visit, making the boy ditch the game altogether. the sweet and sugary scene only irked yeonjun more.
"tch, they look good together,"
"jealous much,"
"i suppose you'd be the one jealous," yeonjun scoffed, walking over to walk beside him, "afterall, that was you not too long ago,"
