"Where's Najimi?" Tadano asked as he walked towards the dinner table. For the majority of the summer vacation Najimi had been staying with the Tadano's. Because Najimi was nearly always hanging out with them, they were like family to them. Najimi was like a... brother? Sister? Another sibling to Tadano himself, but recently tadano had noticed najimi acting very strange, they weren't their usual bubbly-self, not going out as much and all around seeming like something was weighing on their mind, and to add to that today najimi had been nearly completely silent, not moving much or doing anything, it was the worst Tadano had ever seen them, he had been planning to ask them what was up after they ate dinner, but here he was at dinner and Najimi was nowhere to be found.

"I'm sure Naji's just washing up or talking to someone on the phone" said Jeanne, Tadnao's mom. Tadano sat down to eat but wasn't able to pick up his fork, he knew something was wrong. "I'll go check on them" Tadano said, quickly standing up "Be quick!" said Jeanne "or your dinner will-" "I'll eat all of your food" said Hitomi with a cheeky smile, Tadano shrugged it off and briskly walked away. He headed for his room where he had seen Najimi last but arrived to find nobody there. Tadano was very confused, he began to think about anything Najimi might have said, he remembered early that morning when something strange had happened.

*that morning*

Tadano had just woken up, hazy eyed he trudged out to the kitchen to pour himself a bowl of cereal, nobody else was awake at that time... or so he thought, he was munching on his food when Najimi appeared out of the bathroom door, looked around, saw Tadano in the kitchen and walked over to him with a worried look on their face that tadano was too tired to notice "Hito'" Najimi said assertively, Tadano, slightly surprised to hear his first name looked up at Najimi "does my voice sound deeper today?" Tadano stared for a moment, confused by the question. Why would Najimi be asking this? "...I don't think so" came the slow reply, Najimi huffed and walked away back into the bathroom, Tadano didn't bother thinking about it anymore, it was too early for Najimi's antics.

Looking back, Tadano could clearly see that something had been up, in his early morning haze he hadn't realized just how strange Najimi was acting. Tadano decided he needed to tell his family what was going on. "I can't find Najimi" Tadano announced as he walked back into the dining room "oh I wouldn't worry about it Hito, you know how Naji' is, always about doing something" Jeannie replied to him, but as Tadano replayed that mornings events in his mind he knew something was wrong "no. something is wrong, Najimi was acting strange this morning, and they wouldn't just go out like this without at least letting me know" Jeanne could see Tadano was serious, she paused for a moment before getting up from her chair and walking over to tadano "you checked the whole apartment?" she said seriously "I checked my room and the bathroom, but I don't think Najimi is in here, this apartment is very small" Jeanne turned quickly on her heal "Hitomi, check the rest of the apartment, text us if you find anything" Hitomi groaned, quickly stuffed the rest of her food in her mouth and got up to look around, "come on Hito, let's look outside, I hope Naji's not out here, it's pitch black and very cold"

Tadano and Jeanne slowly strolled around the playground area outside of their apartment, scanning the area over and over again looking for a particular someone, but after 10 minutes of searching they had found absolutely nothing. "Perhaps we need to call the police" suggested Jeanne, Tadano was about to agree when Jeanne's phone rang, she pulled it out of her pocket to see Hitomi was calling her "hello? Did you find anything?" Jeanne said, Tadano beginning to notice the worry in her voice. "I found the back door slightly open, we usually keep this door locked don't we?" "the back door to the fire escape?" Tadano chimed in "yeah, one of Najimi's jackets is missing as well, doesn't take a genius to figure this one out" Hitomi nearly chucked at her own joke "Mom, you stay looking out here, I'll run around to the fire escape and see what i can find" Jeanne nodded and Tadano set off. As he walked around the back of the apartment to where the fire escape let out he began to feel sick with worry, "there's nothing behind the apartment but forest for a good long while, why would Najimi go here?" he said to himself. Tadano rounded the side of the building and arrived at the bottom of the fire escape, he looked up to his apartment window and saw Hitomi watching him, she gave him a worried wave before Tadano disappeared into the tree line.
