The Island

Chapter 1

She felt the cold at the beginning, and then the water. Her brow crinkled, confused, she tried to open her eyes. Then she started to hear the water tinkling around her.  Her eyes opened , but what she saw doesn't connect with her mind, doesn't make sense, she's very confused. There's only red around her, she start to focus. The red comes from a red light blaring like a police sirens. It's the only sources of light around her. She look around and see nothing, she's in a pod. An Egg like pod, a narrow one. No window, but it appear like there is a door in the ceiling, like an airplane door, locked of course, and the water leaks from the gap between the door and the wall. That's where the tinkling water sounds came from, and the water already reach her abdomen.  She woke up abruptly from her sitting position, but the pod to narrow and not to high, she bend on  her knees, and tried to push open the door. The door didn't budge at all. The water keep rising every second.
Now she got scare, she can't open the door, and she didn't remember why she was there. what more scare her is, she didn't remember herself. Who was she? What's her name, where she's come from. One thing she knows she doesn't wanna die yet. Definitely not this way.
She keep trying to open the door, banging on the door as hard as she can, she start feeling nauseous and tired, she knew it's due to lack of oxygen, and make her more frantic to open the door.
She keep having flash back. About a girl calling her Momma, from the girl was a wee baby, when the girl was starting to walk, when the girl starts calling her Momma. When the girl start going to school. But she can't see the girl surrounding. She can only see the girl face and body, and her outfit. But no matter how hard she tried she can't see her house, is there anyone with her baby. Suddenly she's having another flash back, but this one is scaring her more than everything. She saw her baby, now about ten years old, crying calling her. She was screaming histerically calling her mother. Someone was dragging her baby away, an old man, and he seems familiar. She keep calling her baby, "Cassie!!" She remember now, her baby. Cassie.. tears flowing from her eyes. what happen to Cassie? what happen to her?
"Cassie, Momma will be at the better place, momma will heal in no time, and will be back to us sooner than you know." Said the man that keep dragging her away. "No, momma, momma please don't go, momma!!" Cried Cassie. "Cassie!!!Cassie!! Who are you, let me go!! George, what are you doing, Cassie is mine!! You can't take her away, Stopped!! Cassie!!!" She keep screaming. "Hannah, calm down, we're just trying to help you!" Said an old man in white uniform, he's holding a syringe full with yellow transparent liquid. "Put that away!! I don't want it anymore.. No!!! Cassie!!! Please come back!! Help me Cassie!!! Nooooo!!!" And she black out when the old man inserting the syringe through her vein and the liquid starting to do its job.

Hannah open her eyes. Her name is Hannah, she has a daughter and her name is Cassie, she still not sure about George but he seems familiar to her.
"alright Hannah, task number one, get the hell out of here!" She said to herself, so she start kicking the door with her feet, banging with her hand.
She felt the pod rattled when she was kicking and banging the door, but the door won't open. She think something must be blocking the door open. Hannah switched her place, now she's facing the wall and her back leaning to the door. And then she start kicking, banging, pushing the wall with all her strength. Sweats dripping from her brow, her breath starting to elaborate, water splashing with every move she make. She didn't care, she want to get out. "Let me out!!!! Get me out!!!" Hannah cried. The water level keep rising. She didn't want to think about it. She kick and push once more with all of her might and suddenly water is everywhere, from red light now turn to blue. Ocean like blue. Oh wait.. it is the ocean. Hannah turn to see her surrounding, the pod was nestled on an under water rock, the rock is very big and wide, she can't see the bottom of the rock, and the bottom is a long way to go down. There are many pod like hers scattered around the rock. Hannah swim to the nearest pod. The pod's rocking softly, like someone is trying to get out. Hannah tried to break it open but to no avail. Suddenly there's a man swimming fast and signaling  her to go up. she signal back to open the pod. The man pointing her finger to her back, but he's trying to open the pod while Hannah looking back. A very big creature swim slowly and eating the pod. The creature is black, as big as a blue whale but have hands, feet and tail, it's like a giant Komodo with head like whale. Frantically, Hannah and the unknown man, tried to open the pod. suddenly the pod open, and a redhead woman appear. Both of them grab the woman arms and swim up to the surface. The woman start to struggle, but cease her struggle after seeing the creature, and the three of the swam faster.
Hannah gulp the first fresh air as soon as her face out of the water, then searching for the creature. It's still down there leisurely eating the pods.
"What is that thing?" Said the woman. "I don't know, but it ate my pod a second after I got out, and then I swam toward you, to warn you!" Said the man to Hannah. "Let's swim to the rocks, and see where we are. I don't want to be in the water with the creature." Said Hannah.
They all swim to the rock and climb it.   "I think this rock is the tip of a mountain, I don't think I see the bottom down there." Said Hannah while they are resting on the first flat surface they found. "Why are we in the pod?"said the man. Hannah and the woman only shake their heads. "I don't even remember my name! Who am I, why am I here?" Said the woman. "Me too!" Said the man. Hannah decided nat to tell them that she already remembered so she told the she didn't remember too. Beside, she only remember hers and Cassie names, other than that she knows nothing. "are we on the same company? Or hospital? We are using the same uniform." Said Hannah looking to their outfit. A shimmering white outfit, more like diving outfit, it's not wet even after swimming in the ocean. They inspecting their clothes, trying to find a clue. "I'm hungry and thirsty, let's climb to the top and see where we are, and find foods. Somehow I don't feel like fishing here." Said the man jokingly. "Yeah.." said the woman and Hannah.
The top of the mountain is not very far. Fifteen minutes later and they're reach the top.
"Whoaa..it's not a mountain, it's an island, a rocky one." Said the man. Hannah and the woman didn't reply. "There, nestled on the rock over there, is that a building?" Asked Hannah. "Yeah, let's go there!" The woman reply. "I hope there's food." Of course it's the man talking. They keep walking up and down the rocky road to reach the building. "gosh, it's farther than it seems." Said the woman while she's wiping her sweaty  forehead. "There's better be food and water there! Water water water, food food food!" The man was chanting water and food to keep himself walking. "say, what should we call each other, I can't call you guys 'hey you' right?" Said the man. " What, do you remember your name?" Asked Hannah. "not yet, but I can't keep calling you Blondie and Reds right?" Asked the man. "But you're never called us Blondie or Reds." The woman stated. "But I did named you like that in my head." Said the man pointing his head. Hannah laughed. "I called you the man and the woman, how's that?" Said Hannah. "You have no imagination girl!" Said the woman. "Then what about you woman? What do you call us?"asked the man. "I call you number one" the woman pointing to Hannah, "and two" pointing to the man. "hey, why can I be number one?" Asked the man. "Because I saw her first after escaping the pod, then I saw you. So the next people I met, if they don't remember their name, I give them numbers. You can keep calling people by their hair color, because blond hair and red hair are quite common, I bet we're not the only one who have those hair color. Man and woman are to general. In the and you have to number them anyway." The woman shrugged. "I think she was a mathematician or a very organized woman in her past life ."Said the man to Hannah. Hannah chuckled. The man is cute and quite funny. The woman more serious but she's gorgeous. "I'm keep having this flash back, but I don't understand, a teenage boy keep calling me grand ma. Do you think I'm that old?" Asked the woman. "You? Impossible, if I'm guessing the I think you're still in the middle of your twenties."said Hannah. "yeah, I thought so too.." said the woman. "I don't have a flash back, I wish I do, at least I'll got a clue of who I am?" Said the man. "I think I have a daughter, but I'm not so sure."Said Hannah. "Daughter still make sense, I thought you're in your mid twenties too, grandchild doesn't make sense at all." Said the woman. Hannah shrugged, she think Cassie is about ten years old the last time she saw her, if she's twenty five then she was pregnant with Cassie at fourteen? Is that her case?
"Look, there's a couple waiting for us at the door." Said the man. They continue to climb to meet the couple.
"Greetings my fellow man and woman, I'm Dr. Lindsay Gerard and this is my husband Professor Caine Gerard.  Welcome to The Island, the only island left on earth." Said Lindsay. "Excuse me, I thought you said the last island left?" Asked Hannah. "Yes, an apocalypse happened two years ago. A giant meteorite struck the moon but it doesn't stop there, it dragged half the moon and hit the Earth." Caine said. Hannah face turns white. "I think I have a daughter, is she here?" Asked Hannah. "I'm afraid not, all our volunteers are not related one and another." Said Lindsay, "You remembered?"asked Lindsay. "It's a jumbled of flash back. Mostly I don't understand, but I'm sure I have a daughter. are you sure she's not here?" Asked Hannah. "Sorry dear, all our family are parish in the Apocalypse." Said Caine. The woman put her arm around Hannah shoulder and asked the couple, "What do you mean by volunteers?"
"ah, your question has a very long answer, we will explain it you you once after all the volunteers arrived." Said Lindsay. "Uuhhh.. did you know there's a giant creature in the ocean down the Clift? An ugly big creature that ate the pods? Are all the volunteers in the pods?"asked the man. "Yes there's one of the complication we didn't expect. You see, the pod should hatch in a dry environment, cold but dry, we didn't expect the water will reach this heights. More over we didn't expect the giants fishes and animals that roam the sea afterwards. In case you didn't know where we are, we are at the highest mountain on earth. The Everest, now, the island."  Caine explained. All three of them shocked.
"Let's go inside the facility, I bet you're hungry and thirsty." Said Lindsay. "You're right, lead the way doc!" Said the man vigorously. and Then they went inside the building.
