A/N: Everything up to the point in the challenge is still the same in the VD Universe. Now, onto the challenge.
Summary: She never thought she'd be ready to die - let alone die for someone else - yet here she was, about to end it all. She knew Nadia would resent her for it as it was the same as running away and abandoning her all over again. But she had no choice. She was already dying and she wouldn't - couldn't - put her daughter through that when there was no way to save her. So, here she was ending it all. She expected it to be quick. What she hadn't expected was to be saved by her doppelganger. Now, that was surprising and just may change everything.
Plot: Instead of Stefan finding g Katherine's goodbye letter/suicide note to Nadia, Elena finds it and decides to save her enemy. This changes things in the TVD Universe and starts something new.
Extra details - Katherine and Elena with slowly go from enemies to frenemies to friends to lovers. This is supposed to be a really long slow-burn story.
Though, normal vampire blood and the blood of an original can't heal Katherine, the group will discover that the blood from a doppelganger is like a loophole for Katherine and van heal her, but the effects aren't permanent and only last 24 to 48 hrs. This all due to the special connection doppelgangers share and the magic involved in them.
Turning Katherine back into a vampire is completely optional, but if you chose to do so she won't start off as a newborn. She can either be as strong as the one who turned her or return to her original strength. Those are the options for if you decide to return her to being a vampire.
You can use the doppelganger connection to do so if you go that route or make up your own way.
