a second shot

Nothing felt real. It was as if everything was in slow motion. Mikasa didn't remember much of the conversation with Jean, all she heard was "Sasha" and "shot". After that she didn't need to hear anything else. Her whole body felt paralyzed as her and Armin ran through the door.

She knelt over Sasha's barely breathing body. Mikasa grabbed her hand, she took notice of how cold they were. Sasha was always warm. Even when they'd hiked through a blizzard and slept in cold cabins, Sasha didn't complain about being cold. Sasha didn't complain about many things, unless it had to do with food of course.

Sasha's lips were pale, everything blurred and she could hardly feel anything aside from the burning sensation in her back and something on her hand. Blood dripped from her mouth as she found it harder and harder to breathe. Muffled yelling was heard when two fingers lifted from her neck that she didn't notice were there until then. Her sight blurred even more, to the point where she couldn't make out anything. She first thought whatever was on her hand lifted, but she soon realized she was loosing feeling in her arms. That numbness traveled up and down until she could no longer feel anything, not even the blood on her face or pain in her back. The last things she heard were less than peaceful. Yelling and crying, coming from two main people. The noise faded and faded until she ran out of breath. Her body relaxed as she drifted off for the last time.

Mikasa realized Sasha had gone limp. It was normal to try to relax when you'd been shot, right? She still had a chance to make it. It was only when she glanced at her chest to be sure her breathing was still steady, she realized she wasn't breathing at all. Mikasa became aware the sound of Sasha's desperate, violent heaving had stopped, and the spark in her eyes were gone. She was gone. Sasha was dead with no chance of revival.

Nothing had been right since Sasha left. Eren was even more screwed up than they thought, and even worse he hated Mikasa. It still didn't feel like Sasha was gone. Mikasa laid down desperately trying to sleep, but at least Sasha was there to vent to. She'd lay on her back and get ready to speak.

"Hey, Sasha."

Nothing. For a second Mikasa thought Sasha was asleep, or just being annoying and ignoring her. Only when she thought about how bad everything had gotten did she remember. Sasha wasn't around to talk to.

Mikasa sighed and turned on her side to face the wall. Hot tears would stream down her face as she recalled the late night conversations she had with Sasha. Usually Mikasa would lecture her about taking food, but Sasha was always there to talk about deeper things when Mikasa needed to.

She remembered how her grin would grow when Sasha talked, and how she'd go on tangents in the middle of important conversations. At the time Mikasa found it annoying, but she didn't know how lucky she was to have it until it was gone.

Mikasa oddly missed feeling crumbs on the floor of their room. She missed the random chewing noises she'd hear in the middle of the night. She missed finding food stashed in random places. Sasha seemed like an annoying glutton to Mikasa at first, someone far from her type of person, but soon she found that type of person was her new best friend.

Someone she was comfortable with expressing her emotions to. Someone she didn't have the immediate reaction to push away when invading her personal space. Mikasa never even had the chance to express her feelings of Sasha towards her.

Wiping the tears from her cheeks, Mikasa sighed once again. She'd either have a dream about Sasha or a nightmare about the night she died tonight. Finally tired out from crying, Mikasa closed her eyes. If only Sasha had lived. If only she was magically revived after her breathing stopped. If only she had a second shot at life. A life with Mikasa.

-Kinda hate this but yknow.
