I take a bite out of my apple, tuning out my friends' conversation as I let my mind drift elsewhere. In other words, to the beautiful brunette sitting across from me, whose gaze had currently travelled all the way to the other side of the cafeteria where Kim Jennie sat, her hands nervously fidgeting on her lunch tray.

'Kim Jisoo!'

'Huh?' The girl in question jumps slightly as she snaps her attention away from the popular table and back to us. Rolling her eyes at the girl's reaction, Miyeon spoke, 'Stop staring at her, will you? You've already been doing that for the whole morning.'

Jisoo slumps defeatedly in her seat. 'I know, I know. Sorry.'

'You keep saying that, yet you still do it every day.' Seulgi mumbles, her mouth full. She swallows, then adds, 'Plus, what are you even worrying about? You're acting like you haven't been voted queen at every single dance you've gone to.'

'I just want her to notice me, that's all.' Jisoo sighs. 'I don't think she even knows I exist.'

'That's normal. She's a player, after all. A bitch who's just gonna break your heart and walk all over you-'

'That's not true!' Jisoo slams her fist on the table and glares at Seulgi, who seemed unbothered. 'How can you stereotype her just like that? All because of some stupid rumor?'

'Well, rumors don't just spark out of nowhere, do they.' Miyeon deadpans. 'All we're saying is you don't know what kind of person she might be-'

'But I do!' Jisoo protests, and so leads to her talking for a straight 5 minutes on why she liked Jennie, from her looks to her personality.

I tune out her speech and continue eating my lunch quietly.

'You still like her, don't you?' Miyeon asks as the two of us walk home together after school. 'You've been awfully quiet recently.'

We've been friends for years; I knew I couldn't hide anything from her. Yet I still decide to shake my head. Maybe it was the voice hidden deep within me that told me if I had admitted it out loud, it would bring me right back to where I was just a few months ago. Madly in love with her, with no hope of ever getting out.

'Come on, Chae.' Miyeon sounds tired. 'It's about time you told her. Maybe then she'll finally come to her senses and realise she'd been chasing after the wrong person. Honestly, I don't know what the hell she sees in Kim Jennie.'

'Are you serious?' I stop walking. 'You want me to confess to her when she's so... so obsessed with someone else? I don't think I've ever had a conversation with her within the past few weeks where she didn't mention Jennie's name somewhere.' I look down, feeling a sudden pang of loneliness. 'I don't know. We've been best friends since we were kids; I don't want to lose her.'

Miyeon pats my back sympathetically. 'I know it's hard, but you have to move on. You can't just wait around for her forever, Chae. So what if she doesn't like you back? You're a wonderful person, with one of the kindest souls out there. Jisoo's very lucky to have you by her side. Telling her how you feel wouldn't hurt.'
