Betrayed
The plan was dead easy. Go into the school computer room. Hack into the school system and change my end of the year level. Give it back to the school and VOILA! I get and A! The good thing is, I'm not stealing anything. I'm just 'borrowing' it. With a teeny help from my friend, Luke. Ok, maybe a lot. He's got the complicated bit where he goes all computer-geeky on the laptop to hack in to it. But, I trust him. He knows what he's doing.
It's 6pm after school on Friday. Everything is so quiet, so still. You could almost hear the sun setting, this gave us enough light to see for about an hour more, but we weren't going to be here long anyway. We were just outside the school gate, which had a big, rusty lock, I was already nervous doubting the plan would work. Luckily, I was handy with locks. "You ready, dude?" Luke asked quietly.
"Yeah, ready." I replied sweating.
"Let's go!"
Taking out the bobby pins from my pocket, which I got from my sister, God knows, what she'll throw at me when I go back home, I slowly picked the lock until it clicked open. We both mumbled a 'YES' simultaneously when it opened. As silently as we could, we reached for the gate and slowly swung it open, revealing the dirty, brown grass of our school yard. Gratefully, it didn't make the horrible rasping sound it did every morning.
Slowly, we tiptoed towards the door, which was the fastest route into the computer rooms Yes, we have cameras around the school but, Luke had found a sure proof way to switch off the cameras for the night. Told you he was good! Suddenly, we heard footsteps. Not mine or Luke's footsteps but, someone else's. Alarmed, we hid behind the caretaker's cupboard. "Shhh..." whispered Luke pressing his index finger towards his lips.
I nodded at him without hesitation. Pressing our ears on the rough wooden door, we listened to any to any noises or movement outside, staying alert at all times. "Okay, you know how to pick the lock." mumbled the person who sounded like a guy.
Widening my eyes and panicking, I looked at Luke finding the same expression on his face.
"Yes, for the millionth time," mumbled a girl who sounded strangely familiar. "Oh no!"
"Oh no, what?"
"I can't find my bobby pin to pick it!"
"Well, you must have it here somewhere since you picked the lock outside the gates!"
I was shocked, it sounded like...
"The thing is though, I didn't."
"What do you mean you didn't?!?!?!"
"Well, the gate was opened anyway when I got there."
"WHAT?!?!"
"The gate was opened but it seemed like it someone picked on the lock to get in."
"If what you're saying is true... Then... THERE'S A ROBBER ON THE LOOSE IN SCHOOL. HURRY LISA, LET'S GET OUT OF HERE AND CALL THE POLICE!"
I was paralysed and my body refused to move, rooted to the cold and damp spot, until it felt like my eyes popped right out of my eye sockets. Lisa... Lisa... It couldn't be. My twin sister, Lisa. I heard them both run back down the stairs signalling the coast was clear. Why would my little goody-two-shoed sister want to go into the computer rooms at this hour? Did she get a bad level as well that she wanted to change it? Or what? And, who was the guy with her? "Aiden, we gotta get out here, man. Them people outside are gonna call the police! Your hear me, man? AIDEN?" whispered Luke; I could hear the edge and terror in his voice knowing he would soon leave me if I didn't move.
Still confused and overwhelmed by what I had just witnessed, I managed to mumble a 'Yes'. "Hurry up, then!" said Luke a bit annoyed.
As we ran from school, the only thing that was in my mind was my sister Lisa. How could she do this? Why would she? Why? Fortunately, Luke had no idea that the girl outside was my sister. "Aiden, you recognise any of the people's voices that we heard?" said Luke slowing down when we got near his house.
"Err, no. Did you?" I lied.
"Nahh, I didn't. But I think one of them is David. You know, the school's worst student ever? Not surprising, but I just can't figure out who was the girl with him. She's sounds awfully familiar! You sure you don't recognise any of them?"
David MacDonald. How did I not recognise his voice? But most importantly, what was he doing with my sister? "Yea, I'm sure."
"Kay, mate. See ya tomorrow at school! Sorry, we didn't get to change your grades."
"Nah, it's alright. See ya!"
After giving him a 'manly' hug, I set off home. When I got there, my twin sister was listening to music in her MP3 player. That's odd. Where's the tantrum of her losing her bobby pins gone? Feeling awkward just standing there, I decided to go to my room and clear out my mind. I'll just see what happens tomorrow...

"Listen Up! 5... 4... 3...2... and 1!" shouted Mrs Smith our head teacher as she walked into our class.
"There have been few sightings from the CCTV footage of students breaking into school yesterday," she continued.
The class fell into big chaos about what the head teacher just said. I gasped. How did they found out? Luke switched all the CCTV cameras off though.
"SHHH! Now, if anyone knows anything about this, please do not hesitate to tell me. This is a very serious matter. Please own up or else we would have to call the police and investigate further from the CCTV. Once we know who broke in the school, they will get severely punished. But own up now, the consequences will be less harsh."
The class fell into silence. No one said anything. I looked across at Luke and he looked back with a worried expression. He mouthed the words 'Shall we own up?' to me. I nodded my head and mouthed the words 'Yeah, we should'. Half-heartedly, I got up and said "I did it."
The whole class gasped. I turned round and looked at Luke, waiting for him to own up. Except when he looked at me, he had a big smirk on his face. "Thank you Aiden, for being honest. Was there anyone else involved?" asked Mrs Smith.
I fell into silence. I can't believe it. Why wouldn't Luke own up? I looked at Luke with the most pleading eyes ever, but he still had that smirk on his face. What? I don't understand. We're friends. "No, there wasn't." I spoke reluctantly.
I felt hurt and betrayed. I can't believe that my best friend would do this. "Okay, glad that's cleared up. Could you please wait outside the room and I'll come talk to you." declared Mrs Smith.
I didn't want my sister to get into trouble, however, when I looked back, I saw my twin sister Lisa smiling and laughing with my best friend Luke, but worst of all, I saw David Macdonald giving them cash chuckling.
