Scarlett's POV"I didn't mean to kill her!" I heard daddy scream.
I startled awake and ran downstairs with Jeronimo, my stuffed bear, clutched between my arms. I saw my dad screaming at a man that I recognized as my moms best friend, Dave.
Who did daddy not mean to kill? I asked to myself. I'm only 7 years old but I sure know that killing someone isn't a very kind thing to do."WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOU DIDN'T MEAN TO KILL HER? You can't just accidentally kill someone!" Dave yelled back.
My two older brothers, twins Colt and Clay came running downstairs and told me to go to Blakey's room until they came back. They're both 10 and they know more than me so I did what they said. Blake was curled up in his bed completely under his blanket holding his head in his hands, he did this when he was scared. He's only 5, so I went over and laid with him and hugged him to make him feel safe because I'm the best big sister.
Colton's POV
I woke up to yelling and bolted out of my bed and downstairs, I didn't even realize that Clay had woken up until I heard his feet stomp on the stairs. He was still barely awake. Scar was standing by the doorway to the kitchen with wide terrified eyes while clutching Jeronimo the bear as tightly as she could in her arms. I told her to run up to Blake's room to make sure he was okay.
"Where's mom?", I whispered to Clay.
"Isn't she in the kitchen?" he whispered back, I shook my head, no.
We looked at each other confused, we didn't have a clue what was going on. Dad saw we were awake and stalked over, hovering over us, I asked,
"What's going on?"
"Dave here and I were just having a little dispute, why don't you just go back to bed?" he suggested.
"Well you already woke everyone in the house, where's mom? She's not in her room and Scarlett's worried" I said.Dave looked at me worriedly and dad was getting angrier by the second. I have to learn to stand up to this man, all our lives he's been coming and going, one day he's here and he's gone the next. I wish mom would just take us and run away somewhere far like Florida or something.
"I suggest you watch your tone little man, or you might regret it." my dad threatened.
I stood my ground, "I think you should leave, you're disrupting our sleep and we have school in the morning."
I spoke up as I said this, making me sound more grown up. I'm only 10, and I'm not very strong, but I've learned to talk like a grown-up from hearing mom and dad fight so much."Yeah, why are you here anyway? And quit acting like you have any authority here because we know you're just going to abandon us again" I heard Clay say from behind me.
With that, my dad slapped me in the face and I stumbled a little from the impact, but I didn't flinch. He went to hit Clay too, but Dave stepped in and yelled at him to leave.
"This is MY house too! And you children do what I say, your mother isn't here to protect you now is she?" he yelled before walking out and slamming the door behind him.
I looked at Clay and he looked like he was holding back tears, I'm definitely going to have a bruise tomorrow.
