Sirius knew it was dumb, to have met someone once, very briefly, and to now have the thought of them stuck in the back of your mind. But he had an un-resting, nagging want to get to know Remus. He supposed it was the lack of knowing that fueled the intense desire to know.
During their previous visit to the bookstore, James and Remus had spoken for a bit, about books. James had introduced Remus to Sirius and Peter, and for a few minutes, the four stood in a group and chatted like old friends. It was nothing more than small talk while Remus typed book titles into the computer on the front desk, making sure all the ones he'd had in mind were in stock for sale. They'd all gotten on well. And afterwards, James had left happily, a book for Lily in the bag he carried as he, Sirius and Peter exited the bookstore, Remus waving to them as they all left.
Sirius was now back, the bell that hung by the door sounding its usual ting as he entered the store. His curled black hair was out, falling neatly over his shoulders. He'd stared at it in the mirror for at least twenty minutes that morning, worrying if it looked okay or not. As he stepped inside, the familiar scents washed over him, the pale brown walls welcoming him back. Yesterday, he'd had a reason to be here, moral support for James' worried decision making. Sirius hadn't let himself dwell on how it was weird to be returning to the bookstore, distaste for reading and all, just to see if Remus was here again today as he got ready this morning. Though now, stood directly in the doorway, his mind was wandering just a little.
"Hey, Sirius, right?" The familiar voice of the exact person Sirius was about to seek out made itself known as Remus walked over. He wore another jumper today, this time purple, the same pins attached to its front that he'd worn yesterday.
"That's me." Sirius said with a grin, tucking his fingers into the pockets of his black jeans."It's good to see you again, but maybe we should move out of the doorway?"
"Oh, right." Sirius quickly shuffled aside, clearing the doorway for anyone who may need to use it, thankful for the prompting, because otherwise, he likely wouldn't have moved. It was embarrassing the spatial awareness he lacked at times. He move closer to where Remus was standing, looking around a little, glancing across the shelves in an attempt to not seem like too much of an idiot.
He swayed slightly on his heels, waiting for his brain to come out with something funny, witty or interesting to say. But as he sat for longer on the silence, he began to feel the awkwardness seep slowly into the interaction, and by looking at Remus' face, he was feeling the same way.
"Did James' girlfriend not like the book?" Thankfully Remus, on the other hand, could actually think of something to say.
"What? No, of course not," Sirius shook his head, following it up soon after. "well, actually. I'm not sure. She hasn't given it to her yet, there's still a few weeks until their actual anniversary." Sirius explained.
Remus stared, blinking for a moment. "By how he was acting, I thought it was soon, and he was rushing." He looked a little surprised, but soon shook his head slightly, ridding himself of the expression. Sirius just laughed.
"No, that's just James. There's a bunch of other things he's setting up too, he just wanted to be prepared. He always gets worked up like that. I'm just glad you showed up yesterday because he'd probably still be here pacing down the shelves."It was Remus' turn to laugh, grinning a little. "So is that all you came by to do, tell me thank you?" He asked, eyebrows quirking upwards. There was a hint of seriousness to his question, but his tone was mostly a joke.
Sirius shrugged his shoulders slightly, still swaying back and forth on his heels, hands still in his pockets. "I mean, kind of." He admitted after a pause. "James said thanks yesterday, but I thought I'd come by and give you a thanks that didn't sound like it's in a rush." He joked. James had said thank you to Remus at least five times before leaving the bookstore, but Sirius thought it was a nice gesture coming from someone in a more relaxed state.
