Final zone began closing, The final 2 squads facing off between two buildings, or rather, on top of them. You had perched yourself behind an AC unit that rested on the roof, reloading your weapon. You felt sweat drip down your brow, both from the heat of zone and the pressure there was to win. Loba had been killed, you had picked up her banner, but there weren't any respawn beacons left. Mirage was somewhere close to you, but he had just been downed, his group of decoy's showing he was, but he was invisible. You could only hope he was nearby.
Striker had lost a third of his health, his armor having a few dents here and there. He was behind the building, climbing his way up to crouch near you. You looked over the unit, seeing Gibraltar's orange shield dome with Bloodhound and Seer as they re shielded. You needed to attack now while they were weak. You whistled, turning to Striker. You scanned around, seeing Mirage trying to crawl to some kind of cover. You pointed to him, the middle piece on his armor going blue as he dashed over to his position.
You breathed out. You had one chance at this. You readied a thermite, watching as Gibraltar's shield lowered. You throwed it, hearing the sparks hit armor as you ran forward, jumping at the last moment, barley landing on the other roof. You clamored up raising your gun the moment your boots hit the top of the building. You managed to knock Seer and Gibraltar, but when you had to reload, you felt metal hit the side of your head as you were knocked forward. Looking up, Bloodhound reloaded their gun. You closed your eyes, waiting for it to be over.
But it didn't happen.
You heard a few shots go off before Bloodhound was knocked over, Mirage looking like he was sneaking up on them, before the real him popped up next to them, leaving a blow to the side of their face before he stood, fist bumping the decoy as it vanished. He held out a hand, helping you stand as the announcers voice wrang out, Striker jumping onto the building to stand with you.
"These are your new champions."
===================
A sort of party had been set up later in the evening after the match, both as a welcome party and a congratulations on winning your first game. Several of the legends, some of which you hadn't run into, greeted you and congratulated you.
While it was nice to share proper formalities, it was draining. After about an hour, you could feel exhaustion weighing heavy on your eyes. You moved from your leaning position against a back wall, placing your drink down on the nearest table. You stretched, beginning your walk back to your room, or rather, where you were told it was.
"Woah, hey, were you headed? Party's just getting started!"
You turned around, Mirage behind you with a small smile on his face, an eyebrow raised.
"Im just tired, wanted to head to bed-"
"Let me walk you back- I mean, if its ok with you, i just, y'know I don't know if you know where your room is so I could take you there, its no trouble really," he rambled, you chuckling at him. You didn't know what it was, but there was something that was enticing about him.
"Sure, I don't mind," you said, walking behind him as he led you down the hall. Maybe he could tell you were tired and just wanted some sleep, maybe it was something else, but he didn't talk much as the two of you walked. You saw him fidget with his hands slightly as you reached the door.
"I-if you need me, my room is the third door on the down from yours," He said, you opening the door. "Goodnight, Dreadnaugh-"
"Just call me (Y/n), night, Mirage!" You said with a yawn, waving at him with a small smile as you shut the door.
Right before you sat down, you picked up the helmet you had set down on the bed previously. You pressed the button again, the same voice playing out. You didn't know why, but it felt familiar to you, like you had heard it somewhere. You ran your thumb over the button, feeling a small dial you hadn't noticed before behind it. You turned it slightly, before pressing the button again. This time, a different message played out.
"I'm not sure how long I've been up here for. Or how long I'll be up here for. The mission went south, Titanfall didn't work. I tried doing it on the ship, just as an attempt to get the titan here and make sure it was working, but nothing. That was my third attempt. Blisk, if you ever get this message, please relay it to my family. Tell them I'm sorry I wasn't there. Tell my son I'm sorry I was never there, even though I wanted to be. This is Foxtrot, signing out. I'm going to try and get some sleep.""What..?"
It took a moment, but then you realised why the voice sounded so familiar. You could feel tears prick at your eyes slightly.
"...Dad?"
