That Summer That Changed Everything

Chapter 4

 I can't stop thinking about him. Or about our conversation this morning. We didn't really get anywhere. He eventually left my room before anyone was awake. Now it's 9 o'clock and i'm at the table with Austin. Our moms were finishing up breakfast.

"Do you want to come with me?" Austin asked. I looked at him and he was staring at me.

"Oh I'm sorry I wasn't listening , what's up?" I told him honestly.

"Okay then, I asked If you wanted to go into town with me today to run some errands." Austin repeated. I think some air and space from Ethan sounds good right now. " Oh okay, yeah I'll join." I smiled at him. He smiles at me back but with some concern. Great, he's going to ask me if I'm okay.

I went up to my room to put better clothes on. I changed into a red T-shirt crop top and slipped on my vans. I brushed out my hair and threw on some makeup so I didn't look like a zombie.I finished getting ready and jogged downstairs to meet Austin back in the kitchen. I grabbed my phone off the table where I was sitting .

"You ready, Freddie ?" Austin asked, grabbing the keys off the counter to the Jeep.

" Yeah, Love you guys , see you later!" I yelled to our moms at the same time Austin did

"Be Careful, love you guys too!" they yelled at the same time.

We hopped into the Jeep and Austin handed me the charger so I was incharge of music. I smiled and plugged in my phone and put on music. We pulled out of the driveway and Austin turned down the music.

"Alright what's on your mind?" Austin asked. Well that didn't take long.

" I'm okay, I just didn't sleep that much last night." I tried to blow it off. But I failed.

"Yeah because you're in the pool with Ethan , right ?" Austin asked with a smile on his face as he raised his eyebrows and glances at me. How the fuck?

"How did you know that?" I asked very confused

" I heard my mom talking about it to yours this morning." He said, like it was okay to eavesdrop.

"You gotta stop eavesdropping " I said and folded my arms and looked out the window.

"Come on spill" He says while nudging my arm but still looking at the road.

"There's nothing to spill, we were just swimming in the pool." I tried to convince him.

"Ugh well that's boring. My brother is an idiot and should realize what's in front of him." He said slightly annoyed.

"What are you talking about?" I asked, confused on what he knows.

"I know you have had feelings for him for so long. He has to wake up and see it already." He said getting more annoyed with his older brother.

I was dumbfounded. If he knew who else did? Does Ethan know ?

" Wait, you know?" I asked, even more confused than before.

" Of course I know. Cam I have seen the way you look at him over the years." Austin said while grabbing my hand.

" I just never said anything because I didn't want you to get embarrassed but I can't believe he still hasn't figured it out. He's blind." He lets go of my hand and puts it back on the steering wheel to make a left turn. 

He parks the car and we get out and walk towards the store together. "So you have known and never told anyone?" I asked , trying to figure this out.

" Of course I didn't tell anyone, that's your business. I just wish Ethan could see it already and you guys can both be happy." Austin says truthfully.
