Macau stood at the entrance to the hall sipping a cold glass of water. He stared inside with a slightly nervous and uncomfortable look on his face but proceeded to walk further in.
Inside the room there were people everywhere dressed in expensive suits and dresses talking about the new changes happening to HIS family and how it would affect THEM. He didn't even know one person in the crowd and yet they talked so much about his family and situation as if they knew anything that had actually happened.
He felt isolated in the crowd but decided to start making small talk with some of the strangers anyways to try relieve at least some of his internal awkwardness towards the situation.
He soon regretted this decision as he was growing bored of their meaningless conversations. As he looked around the hall as to something that would amuse him, he noticed a familiar face in the corner of the room looking as lost as he, himself, was.
It was Porchay.
Macau had met him only once a few days ago when he came to the minor family's house with his older brother Porsche when he had just taken leadership of the minor clan but he never went up to him to have a proper conversation during the visit because of Porchay's clear dislike of the entire situation.
Porchay didn't look as upset as before so he decided to go up and strike up a conversation as he was the only recognisable person there.
He turned towards the table behind him to put his drink down he turned back to see Porchay staring across the room with as saddening look in his eyes. Macau followed his line of sight to see he was staring at Kimhan, the youngest son of the major family as well as Macau's cousin, who was staring back at him with the same expression.
This situation intrigued Macau, finally something interesting was happening at this boring party.
He walked over to Porchay and laid his arm over his shoulders as he grinned at him mischievously. Then he proceeded to glance at Kim, Who's face suddenly changed to a look of annoyance as he turned away which pleased Macau greatly.
As he turned back to face Porchay he noticed the look of complete shock on his face and removed his arms from the boy's shoulders. "Hi... " Macau said with and awkward smile but which received no response just a look of confusion from the other.
"... Do you remember me?" he continued. "I'm Macau from the Minor fam-" "-I know" replied Porchay cutting him off. "Ahh he speaks." Said Macau letting off a little giggle but quickly regaining his composure after seeing Porchay's neutral expression. "Why are you talking to me? " he asked "Well... Ugh... This room is filled with people who I don't know and don't really want to know I guess." replied Macau shrugging his shoulders "Do you want to know me?" Porchay said suddenly with a stern expression.
The question caught Macau off-guard.
"I... " he looked down at the ground considering a reply not knowing how to respond to the question.A quiet chuckle rang through Macau's ears as he looked back up at Porchay biting his bottom lip to avoid laughing out loud.
"Just messing with you." said Porchay to Macau through a giant grin.
Macau stood there confused and slightly annoyed for a couple of seconds. But Porchay had one of those contagious smiles where you just look at them smile and it would make you happy.
"Sorry I didn't properly introduce myself to you the other day, I was feeling quite... Unwell... But anyways I'm porchay. My friends call me Chay."
His abrupt friendliness was confusing but Macau went along with it. "OK Chay." he replied with a smile.
After talking for a little while about a few things, Macau once again noticed Kim staring at them.
Now he wanted to get an answer to the question that interested him at the time.
"So what's up with you and Kim?"
As he asked, Porchay's face instantly dropped from a smile.
Macau observing this instantly regretted asking. "I'm sorry... I just saw you two looking at each other earlier and... Ugh... I sensed something was going on."
"There's nothing going on anymore."
'Anymore' the word rang in Macau's ears his interest peaked and he wanted to know more about the story.
He was often described as 'nosy' by people, especially his late father, but in reality he wasn't nosy, he just wanted to be included by those who excluded him.
"By the way where's your brother? " Chay asked in an attempt to change the subject. "Where's yours?" replied Macau. "I'm not sure." "You should get used to that." Macau said turning away to look around the room trying to locate Kim.
He turned back to see Porchay looking down at his feet with a melancholy expression.
"Hey I didn't mean- sorry." Macau said with a feeling of strong guilt. As he didn't see a change in Porchay's attitude he held Chay's chin and used it to lift his head up so they were looking right at each other. Macau smiled playfully "Don't worry I was just joking I know Porsche isn't like that." Porchay smiled back as Macau let go of his chin and ruffled his hair. "Oi stop, you'll mess up my hair."
Macau laughed "It's fun to tease you, you know." and then looked back up to see Kim looking directly at him.
He beckoned Macau to follow him into the hallway. Macau rolled his eyes but nodded in Kim's direction in agreement. "Hey, I'll be back later okay." he announced to Chay as he walked off.
Chay stood there confused by the abrupt end of their conversation and watched Macau leave the room, and him.
