The class are reciting the Pledge of Allegiance, aside from Topanga who is still sitting down. They finish it and all sit back down.
"Miss Lawrence, I couldn't help noticing that you didn't recite the Pledge of Allegiance this morning." Mr. Feeny notes.
"Yes, sir. I elected not to." Topanga says.
"Why was that?" Mr. Feeny asks.
"I didn't feel like it." Topanga answers.
"This is gonna be cool." Cory tells his two friends.
"What was that, Mr. Matthews?" Mr. Feeny turns to him.
"Uh, I said, "this is gonna be cool," Mr. Feeny." Cory says.
"Why?" Mr. Feeny asks.
"Cause you're finally gonna nail Topanga for being weird." Cory says, chuckling quietly.
"Do you think it's weird to engage in social protest?" Mr. Feeny questions.
"I think it's weird to pick on me when she didn't say the Pledge of Allegiance." Cory says.
"Well, Mr. Matthews, it seems that you and Miss Lawrence have opposing positions for this morning's debate." Mr. Feeny states.
"Uh-oh." Cory mutters.
"You been set up, bud." Minkus smiles.
"Mr. Feeny told you not to say the pledge?" Cory asks the girl in front of him. Topanga just smiles and faces forward. Raquel quietly laughs.
"Today's social studies discussions -- American traditions. The Pledge of Allegiance versus social protest." Mr. Feeny writes on the chalkboard. "Mr. Matthews, defend old glory. Miss Lawrence, defend the right to dissent."
They both stand up by their seats.
"Just because it's a tradition doesn't mean you have to do it." Topanga states.
"But it's the Pledge of Allegiance. It takes, like, 10 seconds to say. Why can't you just say it and make everyone happy?" Cory asks.
"Because if I'm forced to do it, just because it's some tradition I don't understand, then it doesn't make me happy." Topanga states.
"Can you spell... peculiar?" Cory asks.
"Oh, and you're normal? You talk to a flag every day and you don't even know what you're saying." Topanga retorts.
"But I do it. I do it because I'm supposed to do it. And that's what makes me a great American." Cory states. Shawn starts to hum "Glory, Glory, Hallelujah" as Cory continues to talk. "That's what makes this country great. That flag. Because that flag gives us the right to have this discussion. And this discussion is the most important discussion we will ever have, and--"
The bell rings and everybody grabs their stuff and rush out.

"Parents don't understand how important the weekend is, you know?" Cory says as the trio sit in the cafeteria.
"Yeah. "like there's not enough pressure on us being in the sixth grade all week." Shawn says.
"And then they want us to do stuff on our only days off." Cory complains.
"Okay, is it so awful that they wanna spend time with you?" Raquel questions.
"Yes." Both boys nod making Raquel roll her eyes.
"Only 3 days till Monday." Minkus grins.
"Minkus, I'm sure that if you check your ticket stub, you'll see that your seat is in the goon section." Shawn says.
